Transmission Warranty

My 2005 Yukon (1500) 4WD ( I also never tow with it) XL, it has 92000 miles on it, I found out the transmission is bad and needs to be replaced. Its going to cost me $2500 dollars my warranty to runs to 90,000 only. Has anyone had any luck to get GMC to pay for a rental or part of the transmission work?

Also when I called transmission places this seems to be normal anyone else have this happen?

Thanks
Andy

Re: Transmission Warranty

Good luck with that. That is going to be tough considering it's been at least 1000 mi. since the warranty ran out. Sure is sad though to see that happen at 92k, my mom drives an '03 with just under 100k.

Re: Transmission Warranty

Warranty or a service contract? If it's a service contract is it GMPP or an aftermarket company?

Re: Transmission Warranty

It is very common with that particular transmission. 4L60/65-E.

Its a GM extended Warranty for only 90,000 I called the 800 number they wont budge, not even pay for my rental, I am a bit disappointed. Next year when I buy a new car I wont get the extended warranty but I also might not consider GM because of this large expense. I know I sound like sour grapes but the weird part even the dealer wouldn't give me a rent a car when they know i only go to them for service. What can you do maybe its a sign of the times?

NO car ran good, I mean yes I got the fluids changed back and front, all $400 plus worth at the dealer when they told me to get it done. When I called local tranny places first thing they asked is 3rd and 4th not working. I said yes, they said very common, I ended up having the dealer order a new one. They promise me its not rebuilt going to cost me $2500 plus rental. I feel is reasonable being its not a rebuilt and 100,000 warranty on the tranny. I have no choice I need the car for the size family I have and cant afford a new one

Re: Transmission Warranty

Pretty rare not to get a rebuild, GM generally doesnt offer them, most sold are SRTAs (Service Replacement Transmission Ass., a factory rebuild), even for warrenty replacement.

Re: Transmission Warranty

You say you had a GMPP policy for 90k and the tranny went out at 92k, and they wouldn't cover it.

Say when you bought the vehicle you had financed it for 36 months. Suppose after you made that last payment they called you up and wanted you to make another payment. Would you do it?

What's the difference in that and what you wanted them to do? The only difference I see is that one is in your favor, and one isn't.

You still may want to consider them because now they offer a 100K mile 5 yr powertrain warranty standard

Re: Transmission Warranty

Your not going to buy GM because of this? Come on now your 2000 miles over the limit 90,000 miles means 90,000 miles You think Ford, Dodge or someone else is going to make an exception? I dont think so.

Re: Transmission Warranty

What is it with people lately. I mean, sure, it sucks when a trans goes out. But it happens, it is a machine, and machines break ALL THE TIME. Is it common, no. It it common when they do break that the 3-4 goes out, or reverse. Sure. But this happens with cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, helicopters and on and on. It sucks, and sometimes it is you it happens to, other times it is someone else. You buy a warranty to hopefully protect yourself from having to pay for it, but in this case, your gamble of not going with more mileage (presumably due to the increase in cost of the warranty) didnt pan out.

Going with another manufacturer doesnt guarantee anything at all. You are starting from scratch again, and more than likely you wont have a transmission problem simply based on odds. But not buying a warranty is not the best plan of action if you ask me, I have seen them pay for themselves over and over and over again, on all makes and all models.

Sorry if it sounds like a rant, but when it isnt you thats broke down, (not you, but anyone in general) you say, ahh well, it happens. But when it is you that has the unlikely trans failure, you must be getting screwed somehow.

Re: Transmission Warranty

I understand your frustration. But why is that people do not understand that when a warranty is over it means it is over?

Re: Transmission Warranty

Now Now !
You know if it was a toyoyo or hunda or any other pacific rim
appliance they would of stepped up immediately and replaced that tranny at NO CHARGE and give the guy a new Rolls-Royce as a loaner car as well as a pocket full of cash for the hassle!

GM is EVIL and out to screw the customer! (sic-ad naseum)

Re: Transmission Warranty

Just make sure when they install the new trans they write down the "Flush Code" on your paperwork or you could be sorry down the road....see post 3 year/36,000 trans warranty
