Sun Visor Pet Peeve

Why can't I purchase a GM vehicle where I don't have to hold my hand along side of my head (to block the sun) when driving south in the morning and north in the afternoon?

What happened to the visor extender? I had one in a cheap '98 S-10 4-cylinder truck. They had a good idea and killed it.

I was sitting in a GM mini-van at the Detroit Auto Show and saw a couple checking out the visor. He swung it to the side and saw it didn't cover the complete side window. He said. "This is cheap" as they left and walked toward the Japanese vehicles.

There's your problem. GM minivans SUCK!! My 06 Silverado has them. I am sure any other vehicle has them, but the POS Uplander doesn't....

Re: Sun Visor Pet Peeve

I've noticed it too, and so did my grandparents when I was showing them the Acadia. It looks like every newly-designed GM vehicle will go without them. My '99 Sierra, '00 Sonoma and current '05 Silverado all have them, but I never use them. It's not a deal breaker to me personally, but some people will miss them. My grandparents liked the Acadia enough to forget about the visor extensions they like in their Suburban.

i am driving a new body silverado without extenders but the sunvisor will pull towards the back and extend to block the sun, don't know if they checked that on that model your talking about, it is definitely a possiblility. possible driver related malfunction.

That is something I've noticed as well, it seems like the sun visor is an afterthought at GM. Maybe for $1.00 more they could upgrade it to something that doesn't feel like it will snap off in your hand?

Why not save the buck and let it snap off. That creates service work and extra revenue from parts sales.....don't you know how GM works yet??

Re: Sun Visor Pet Peeve

Visor extenders make the visor very fat.

GM needs to incorporate dual sun-visors!!!

I thought I'd quote you on this because everyone here seems to have missed your point that the original poster here was incorrect in saying that the visor doesn't extend back far enough. Having a separate piece that slides out of the visor is a waste of resources when you can just make the entire visor slide on the rod. Many vehicles are going to this, and in case somebody else missed it, you are saying the Uplander has this type of visor.

Makes sense to me. People just like to complain even when they don't know what they are talking about.

Precisely. Not to mention people that own them dont bother to read their owners manual, then go around complaining to the friends and family who look elsewhere. Sad.

BTW, my 98 Sonoma has two visors per side, a main one with extensions and secondary one that allows me to build a little visor fortress. But somehow the sun manages to always find the one spot where there is no coverage, you know that little gap between your visor and rear view mirror? Hehe

Even those that slide back, don't slide back far enough to block the sun in the warm months (sun more northerly). Extenders cover the whole side glass. Some people just like to criticize others. I can tell when the sun's in my eyes.

Re: Sun Visor Pet Peeve

hey the Acadia/Outlook does extend out. No it does not have a slider but the whole visor pulls/slides on its rail. Sorry you missed it. I understand if your not use to that you probabaly would not even think of trying it.

Yes in every car that is built....no matter what the brand.

My Park Avenue has duel visors and a extender. I use every bit of this feature. When I am driving home in the afternoon I always need to cover the whole corner of the car driver's windows.

Even on a cloudy day my eyes are sensitive to light and this is a god send.

You can't make blanket statements like that (at least not if you want to be correct). It depends on which sliders you are talking about. The ones on the GMT900's slide back all the way to the door frame, covering the entire side window. The sliders in the Trailblazer don't.

And even a lowly 4-cyl Malibu and GMT800 Work Trucks have extenders. Why would you come here and make a statement like "Why can't I purchase a GM vehicle where I don't have to hold my hand along side of my head (to block the sun) when driving south in the morning and north in the afternoon?" when there are plenty of GM cars that do have them? Wouldn't it have made more sense to ask why a specific model in question didn't instead of incorrectly implying that no GM vehicles come equipped with them? Also, do you go other forums and ask the same question of every other manufacturer that doesn't put extenders in every vehicle? These are the reasons your post came off to some as baseless complaining.
