    "at the factory" ?

I can assure you these repairs aren't being done at Lansing Assembly, they have the ability to manufacture "assemble" (bolt together) cars, not (R & R) to this level of complexity or magnitude.

I'm guessing, someone at GM knows, but they have nothing good to say, so they say nothing....... major bummer.

You've been waiting 7 weeks, normal order outs are 6 to 8 weeks. Consider yourself lucky, I waited 6 months for my Camaro.

Customers ordering cars are a very rare thing now. My Cadillac dealer told me that around 5% of his orders are customer orders. Its those special customers that WANT to know about the happenings in their car. They relish the extra information. Its why Corvette owners can take delivery of their car at Bowling Green and tour exactly where it was built!
This. You understand a concept that few OEMs seem to grasp, GM in particular.

As I have said many times...the wait is not a problem, I'm in no hurry. The problem is the shoddy customer service that has accompanied it.

Maybe I just have unrealistic expectations of how customers should be treated, but none of this smells right to me. When the CAC rep told me in a disgusted tone that "they can't track orders" I about blew a gasket. I said, "Well, you all refer me to the dealer...yet GM doesn't tell the dealer ****. Any other suggestion?"

And with that understanding comes the realization you should never be loyal to a brand or a corporation. And the next time you go car shopping you won't let a brand name influence your purchase decision. I'm not saying it did this time, I'm just laying it out there for you.

Good luck with your order, sometimes the wait is worth it. Sometimes it's not.
If I didn't have a $1,000 deposit tied up in the ATS, I'd have a 335i in the driveway.

That more or less should demonstrate my level of brand loyalty.

I assure you corporations will **** me over one time, and one time only. Next I'll either get even or never come back.

Why would you get the 335i and not the 328i Nick? Would you get the 335i with the stick?

The dealer should be willing to give back that $1,000 deposit. Here they have a customer who ordered a car, car gets built, shipped, but then intercepted for repair, and now is in a undisclosed location with GM not telling the dealer or the customer what the **** is going on. This isn't a situation where a customer is backing away from an ordered vehicle because he had buyers remorse. This is a buyer not wanting a product anymore because he is being treated like crap by GM and wanting to take his business else where.

nsap, I would seriously talk to the dealer and see if they would refund your deposit due to this mess if you do decide to back out.

The 335i is awesome. The N55 is a much better engine than the LFX. I didn't get the same experience in the ATS 3.6 than I do in my dads 335xi when it comes to how the engine performs. The 335i is considerably faster than the ATS 3.6 and if you get the auto, gets considerably better FE to boot.

Considering I moved the money to my checking account for the car and am begging to write the check....no, certainly no remorse here.

Haha. It's been some decades since I worked the line, but I was surprised that most of the cars could drive off the line when finished.

After test driving the ATS, I wouldn't have buyers remorse either. The fact is GM is not treating you right and you don't even have the car yet! Imagine if you didn't have inside sources and didn't read any automotive sites about GM fixing the transmission. The situation would just be worse since the dealer didn't know about the transmission fix until you told them. So if you called the dealer to check for updates on your car and all they said is, " We don't know. We know it was built, but we don't know where it is right now and what is going on. GM isn't telling us anything". How do you think the customer would react to that?

Like I said, I would be in discussion with the dealer about getting my deposit back and even ask if they have a BMW dealer to buy a 335i from. Like you said, I wouldn't mind the wait. It's the non-communication that is the issue. And I wouldn't exactly be happy with GM and would want to go else where. It's not like the 335i is that inferior compared to the ATS.

They are a GMC, Cadillac and Buick dealer. They also have Subaru but it's in the used car building and a separate business apparently.
Just that time again to ignore certain people. I'm certain they will continue to try and instigate and antagonize while throwing up their arms saying they did nothing but are here on a civil basis. Not worth the time seeing how some just seem to know all.

I remember when you were debating whether to get the 2.0L manual vs the 3.6L. You were really on the fence, but in the end, decided to go with the manual. You might have been happy with the 3.6L

Really bad break. Not to minimize have you have been treated poorly by Cadillac and the dealer.

What sort of communication would suffice (in your opinion) in this situation? Would you be satisfied if, rather than customer service saying it is "on it's way" and "we can't track orders," they said something along the lines of: "the car was on its way but there is a service bulletin out for vehicles built between xxx and xxx with the manual transmission that needs addressed. We will have more information for you once the service is performed."

Anything other than "we're not sure where your car is" would suffice - that's not a very comforting statement to hear on a purchase as sizable as this one. Which I've been told that very statement both from my sources and the dealer (which GM told them that). Specifically, tell me what's going on and give me a ballpark ETA. It ain't that difficult.

I mean, if it's going to be another two months or so, let me know so I can get my deposit back and go buy something else.
