saturn warranties

seeing people post things about cross product line warranty coverage.
i had to bring this up.

why is it that you can take a buick or GMC or pontiac, etc... to a chevy dealer or vice versa, to get warranty work done. but you cant bring a saturn or saab to these dealers to have work done. has to be at that dealer.

what is the deal.

its all the same stuff.

now i dont know about all of you, but i like to do my own work, that way i know its done right. and if it gets messed up, its my fault. plus it helps my CSI.

good thing is, with my saturn if i need anything, i know alot of people at the local saturn dealer. so i know they are competant enough to work on my stuff. and i know they wont shove me around and put me through hoops.

Re: saturn warranties

Actually you cant, and Saturns and Saabs require different computers to do programming with. We have to send all of our stock unit Saturns to the Saturn shop for work. As a dealer, you are not to do crossline warranty work unless its an "emergency" situation. It is a very quick way to bring on an audit, and if they do and you cant show why you did the work it gets charged back. The only way I can do warranty work on a vehicle we dont sell new is if they bought it from us used, except Cadillac, Hummer, Saturn or Saab. (or Holden, opel, etc) hehe.

Re: saturn warranties

what computer do you need.

you have a tech 2 and a techline computer.

am i missing something here? only 2 gm components i know of for GM dealers.

what is different from a malibu to a aura. or a cobalt to a Ion. or a acadia to a outlook. or a sky to a solstice.

i can understand hummers, cadillacs, and saabs. but why saturn? what is the deal.

You can use a Tech 2 on a Saturn, but unless you are a Saturn dealer you can not do anything on TIS 2 WEB.I work at a Chevy/Buick dealer. When I had my Saturn Vue I could not do any software updates.GM wants to keep the Saturn customers at Saturn stores.

Yes you can use the Tech 2 on it, but we had a Saturn in here once (used car, out of warranty) and we needed to replace the BCM. We could not do any service programming on it and had to send it to Saturn.

My reason for posting was more to say that GM does not allow crossline warranty except for emergency purposes or if the dealer sold the vehicle used (Chev dealer sells a GMC used that is still under warranty, they can do the work at the Chevy dealer) If your dealer freely does crossline warranty be prepared for an audit at some point, there was one dealer here in SA that was charged back over 100k for warranty fraud, some of it crossline violations and most of the service personel got canned (advisors/management, not techs).

If you have access to the Policy and Procedures manual, there is more info there. I'm not trying to say "I told you so", but maybe the guys at your shop arent aware how big a deal GM makes about it, at least my ASM does when she comes in to check up on us.

Re: saturn warranties

Parts is the same way... GM, don't be like Toyota, let us order & sell all GM Parts!

Shadams is correct, only crossline can be done if an "emergency" or the vehicle was sold used (except Saab, Saturn, Isuzu)...

Our ASM doesn't seem to care as far as crossline repairs...it is up to the individual ASM...that and our zone leading CSI scores help us dicate that reign!

Re: saturn warranties

must have a loop hole for those.
