Roadmaster Molding Comes off
I have a '96 wagon and my ex has a '94 sedan. Both of them have the rubber molding falling off. I cannot believe that a reputable car maker would have non-porous exterior parts held together with rubber cement.
This is apparently a common problem. What did GM do about this when it was first noticed and what should we do about it; go for more glue to be applied every now and then or have mounting screws? Another option, I suppose would be to rip the molding off the sides and clean up the glue residue -- but then the remaining molding on the bumpers is still gonna be there. Other than that, love the car. |

Re: Roadmaster Molding Comes off
Dude, your car is what, 12 year old now? I would rather have it put together with glue than have screws holding it on. If they were screwed on you definitely would have some rust or other problem that would cost alot more to fix.
Just buy some more glue or take them off.

Re: Roadmaster Molding Comes off
I was once told that 3M windshield adhesive works well. I tried that as the molding fell off the last couple of years. When it gets below 0 deg. F. it starts falling off again. This spring I put it back on with 3M moulding tape. Time will tell if it works better. I think the adhesive still allowed a small amount of moisture to get behind it which then froze, expanded, and popped it off. Hopefully the tape, which has some thickness and give to it, will not pop loose if it gets some pressure from behind due to ice formation.

3M gorilla snot (trim adhesive) works good hot or cold.

But it happens to everyone ever built and did so many, many years back too, so I can imagine dealers had gotten cars in to fix these back when only a couple of years old and in warranty.

Re: Roadmaster Molding Comes off
my friends 2002 VW jettas front bumper vents fell out. then soon after that the front guard on the lower part of the bumper well off then. you no what was next the door trim on the drivers side door started falling off. any car can do it new or old. only tape holds that on. some cars have clips but the most part is just 3M tape. pull it off and clean all the old glue off then put on all new 3M tape and it will bee good as new. or just pull it all off and call it a day. i hate all the crap on the bodys of the cars. nice clean look without it.
