possible paint problems 07 chevy 3500

i just bought a 07 chevy 3500 crewcab pickup about 3 weeks ago.within my first week of driving i noticed a few stone chips on the front edge of the hood.i was unhappy but figured i was just unlucky and caught a few stones.i wash my truck once a week and inspect it every few days.i have noticed everytime i drive it i get more chips.i have atleast 50 small marks and chips on the hood of my truck.i dont live on a dirt road and dont follow gravel trucks for a living so im wondering if maybe there is a problem with the paint. it seems very brittle to have that many chips on it.its only been 3 weeks, imagine what it will look like in 3 months.i added a wind deflector and contacted my dealership about the issue. they told me stone damage is not covered.i agree that stone damage is not covered but i think its a little more than just a case of stone damage here.
i would love some feedback on this. maybe you have a similar problem or have an idea of how to pursue this. my dealership said they will contact the gm rep for me but basicaly told me not to hold my breath. i just spent 49,000 on this truck and i expect the paint to hold up a little better than this!
marc
i forgot to add there is excessive orange peel all over the truck, debris in paint and solvent pop in several places.

Try a search or go a few pages back. Orange peel on the new SUVs was mentioned not too long ago.

No offense, but before you go off about your new purchase, take this problem to the service dept where you bought the truck. Explain this problem and see what they will do. If they fix it, great. If not, come on back here and rip Chevy a new one. Just try to get it resolved!!

Re: possible paint problems 07 chevy 3500

i did go to the service dept and i felt blown off.they started throwing excuses at me and said i will have to talk to the gm rep.then the found a piece of scratch paper an wrote my name and number on it.we all know what happens to scratch paper,it gets lost.so i called gm direct and spoke to them about my concern. i am not here tearing them a new one i am sharing my problem with others and looking for others with the same problem. it is much easier to get a problem fixed if others are having the same problem. paint issues can be some of the hardest to resolve.and when the first thing the service dept tells you is my truck looks better than most of the others with orange peel he has seen and starts offering excuses right off the bat you pretty much know how helpful they are going to be.

I don't think theres much they will do about orange peel unless its really bad, on the paint chips the clear bra is an option, on my Tundra I always have paint chips up front and i have a chrome bumper, I cant imagine what it would be like if I had a painted bumper, my Chevy van is great on paint chips up front but theres no paint down low.. clear bra.

Re: possible paint problems 07 chevy 3500

it amazes me how brittle the paint appears to be.the thing that really makes me think there is a problem is the solvent pop coming thru in a few spots and the brown tailgate.ive never heard of a clear bra what is that somekind of vinyl cover?

Ah brittle sounds like my Tundra paint, the clear bra is a film put on the head light lenses and frontal paint 3m makes it guaranteed for life against yellowing, the dealers offer this, its pretty pricey, went to a car show and they had an Aston Martin DB9 with it on they said average for that car was $400 it looked great.

first off if they did tell you you would need to talk with the area service mgr i would find out what the persons name is and when you will be able to visit with him, i hate the rock chips or sometimes its even bug chips, but if there is a defect in the paint, if you would take it to the bodyshop at either your dealership or another store, just ask for their honest opinion and then go from there. they will either tell you if they think it is a defect in the paint job or just normal in alot of cases if there are imperfections in the surface with their expertise they can clean alot of imperfections on surface debris with all of their polishes, cleaning agents etc. i personally do like the bug guards at least they do offer some protection from debris whether it is bugs or rocks, as far as the orange peel. gm has a clear coat over the top of the paint that gives it the paint luster, but if look closely enough you will always find imperfections no matter what manufacturer you purchase from, good luck.

Re: possible paint problems 07 chevy 3500

i expect some defects and normaly i can tolerate alot. its just everytime i look at this truck i get more pissed off.ive seen orange peel and this really seems excessive.as for meeting with the regional rep they told me he comes around once a mont and it will be that long before they talk to him.i use to work in service for harley and i know that they dont have to wait a month to contact him. they can call him and arrange for me to meet with him on his next visit.the other thing i didnt like was they just wrote my name and number on a piece of scrap paper rather than document it.maybe i should of insisted that they open a repair order or somthing

i understand, but most of the area service reps might only be in your area once or twice with in two or three months, have you taken it to the bodyshop yet to at least get their opinion? most bodyshop mgrs do have the authority to do something if it is a warranty situation, IMO that would be the best place to start, if your only talking with a service adviser he's not really the best person that knows about paintwork warranty repairs, its not really that unusual to have paint defects when you have the number of vehicles that are produced. just a suggestion to you but i still think the bodyshop mgr would be your best bet, even if its not at the place that you purchased the vehicle. one other question, who has determined that there is solvent pop problems?
