Parts Training

Why did the GM parts employees have no idea that a replacement injector system was available for my 4.3L Vortec? I phoned and went to several dealers looking into getting a new fuel injection system. I was told that I had to buy the injectors and fuel meter body all separately (CSFI). It wasn't till I came across a thread on this site mentioning a conversion kit, CSFI to MPFI. Not one parts dealer I called told me of this new better system that was available for my engine.
So I am wondering........do the dealers ever send their employees for training??
Is it up to us the consumer to be educated on what is available?

Dealers are obligated to train their employees...it's costst he dealer money, and sadly some are a bunch of tightarses...they are only hurting themselves.

My dealer requires it of all the employees...if we aren't willing to do continued training...he doesn't want us working for him...simple.

THE MFI conversion is not posted in the parts catalog for every application, as it initially was only part of a service bulletin.

I for one can't believe any good parts person would be oblivious to it though, as it's been out for years...that being said, knowing this particular conversion was available no-one would learn as such with any type of training...it's one of those OJT scenarios...and as I said either the parts person was totally new, or totally oblivious...it happens...

Re: Parts Training

You'd be suprised how many parts counter people at the dealers are told to not look up anything over a few years old, especially if one has to go to the books for older cars. The parts counter people you were dealing with didn't bother to read the notes in the application part of computer display, that would have pointed them toward the kit you decribe.
