Subject: Excessive Lint Accumulation on Ebony Colored Cloth Seats (Replace All Seat Covers, Headrests and Armrests)

Models: 2007-2009 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe

2007-2009 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL

Built Prior to October 1, 2008 and Equipped with Ebony Cloth Seats (RPO 19C and 19D)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to provide the field fix. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-08-50-018A (Section 08 -- Body and Accessories).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important: Implementation of this service bulletin by "GM of Canada" dealers requires prior Warranty Manager approval.

Condition
Some customers may comment on excessive lint accumulation on the cloth seat material. Darker colored seat fabric seems to show the condition more than lighter fabrics.

Cause
The source of the lint accumulation is not the seat fabric material. The seat material, though, exhibits a tendency to accumulate and retain lint from sources that come into contact with the fabric.

Correction
Important: All seats will need to be updated in the vehicle. Let customers with RPO 19D know that the appearance of the insert material will be noticeably different.

If the customer has ebony colored cloth seats, replace the seat covers (back and cushion), the headrests and the armrests with revised fabric. Refer to SI for the appropriate seat back and cushion cover, headrest and armrest replacement procedures.
Kinda of a dumb question, but if I bring my truck in (38,000 miles), how do I get them to correct this without giving me the runaround?

Do I reference this TSB?

eek, good luck. Problem is there is nothing binding them to do anything about it out of the warranty period as it is not a recall or any type of safety issue. Should they, I think so. If you took it in for that concern while it was under warranty and have it documented, you should have a leg to stand on. If not, it is going to be hard to get them to do it. I would first go in and ask, bring in the bulletin if need be. Go from there. I am going to PM you....

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

I have a 2009 with the dark interior. The softer portion on the outer edges of the seat gets tons of lint on it. The problem is that GM uses ultra cheap fabrics. They used to be pretty nice, but a maybe ten years back, right around the introduction of the previous Malibu they started using garbage for fabrics. The are no longer plush, they attract lint, they stain like they were made to and they are close to impossible to clean.

There is really nothing "wrong" with the seats. The problem is the DB's that spec'd out the fabric in the sourcing process.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

I had GM replace my set covers for this problem ,they changed the inserts not the whole cover so it still gets lent, but they did offer me seat covers from a aftermarket that is ok untill they find a fix.now we all know that a fix is easy ,but they ar not willing yet to go the whole mile

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

Actually, you cant just change the seat cover inserts. The replacement covers GM came out with do have a different style insert, and a different material cover, but the whole cover was replaced.

Rather then replacing the covers, which I think looks terrible, the two people that actually complained about the lent got the GM seat covers. The look better, offer better protection and cost a hell of a lot less so it has been a win-win for us.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

I seem to have the same problem with fabric in my truck(2009 silverado ext. cab), i'll adress that later after the more pressing issue at hand.recent year models of crew cab and ext. cabs, the window seals on the back windows leak water into the door profusely!had my truck to the dealer three times still cant correct this.it is apearant that seal design is poor(tech. took interior door panels off and applied water to outside of windows and it was literally raining inside of door)they ve replaced exterior seals ,which didnt help, have added butilseal which didnt help, added closed cell foam which didnt help.GM does know theres a problem but will not issue a bulletin on this, nor have put a repair program in place, there are 1000s of these trucks out there with water flowing through the rear doors, will be a real issue for owners when salt and silt collect in the bottom of the doors and they rust out

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

LOL. My 09' Silverado has this same lint problem. I thought I was going nuts, or just looking for other problems since my truck has had fueling AND starting issues since I bought it, and it only has 2,400 miles on it! If the rear windows start leaking I'm going to lose it.

Angry Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

09 silverado:I can assure you the rear windows do leak!Open the rear doors and apply some water to the outside of the windows,(squirt bottle or light flow from garden hose)at bottom of door where running board seal is attached you will see water draining out of door. The curved weather seal on the rear doors is very poorly designed, water pours right through.f you live in a northern state as i do salt residue and sand silt from winter road treatment will flush into the inside of the door collecting in the bottom of the door causing premature rust issues.Ive had my truck to the three times and they just cant correct this issue.Im pissed....my last visit to the dealer i inquied about the lint issue on the seats, was told that gm had fixed that problem ! Then why so much lint on my seats? they couldnt answer that!
