Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

New guy here, but I wanted to give you guys some info about the lint problem. My Aunt is some sort of "higher-up" in General motors and she put me in contact with someone that has helped me out with the lint problem. The first thing she said however is that people need to call the complaint line to open up a case file on the problem. The number to call is 1-800-222-1020. Tell them your complaint and they will open up a case for you. My case is currently ongoing, but they will try and offer you something to resolve the issue. In my case, they told me that the Engineers are working on a solution and that there should be a fix by sometime this fall. In the meantime, they offered me a maintenance care package for 12 months of oil change service, tire rotation, and some other things. (approx. value $500) so it helps. You can accept this, but you MUST let them know that this still doesn't solve your problem and you are not happy. Otherwise they will close your case. I'm pushing to have my seats replaced with leather. I don't know that it will happen, but at least they won't close the case. If they get enough complaints, they will be forced to do something about it quickly. And quickly means replacing them with leather. They were aware of the problem with the seats before these trucks even went into production, but failed to correct the issue. Now they are regretting it. Be sure to let as many people know about the 800 number and get as many people as you can to call. The more complaints, the quicker the solution.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

I've called the number, and they gave me a case number.

If they are replacing these seats, then I'll pay a reasonable price to upgrade to leather. I don't want them putting the same material back on my truck. It has really gotten bad lately....the bolsters are wearing very thin and the whole thing is a mess.

These seat covers seriously won't last another year. I hope that they put some thought into this fix.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

Does anyone have pictures? I have an '08 Sierra with the SLE1 seats, it acts like a lint brush itself, and shows up a lot because its dark, but some of you appear to be having a bigger issue, wear!? Please show.

So much, for our insistence that GM use nicer materials on the interiors ..............

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

I don't have any pictures, but I haven't had any other trouble with mine other than just collecting lint. They say that the problem is only with the ebony (black) colored fabric seats. Maybe it's because that's the only color that really shows the lint the most. That's the only problem I'm having. Every time I clean them, 24 hours later they look like they haven't been touched.

I agree about the leather. I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable amount for an upgrade to leather, but I definitely wouldn't pay full price. The lady I've been talking to outside of the complaint office seems to think that we have all been waiting too long already for this fix. Obviously, the quick fix would be to replace them with leather. That's something that GM can do right now. She told me that it is unfair for people to have to wait as long as we have for these problems to be corrected and that it would only be right to switch them with leather seats. I've still got my fingers crossed so we'll see what happens. Either way, I'll let you guys know as soon as I get some news.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

Don't waste your money on seat covers!

I have a 2007 Silverado with cloth interior and have the exact same problem. After seeing that I'm not alone, I just called the dealership where I bought it. They said "no problem, bring it in and we'll order new fabric"

So, I'm assuming if your vehicle is still under warranty, GM will replace the fabric with something better - hopefully!

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

I'd pay about $500 if they upgraded my seats to leather.

It's so odd....the only reason I skipped on the $800 leather option was because I was afraid that it would wear worse than fabric.

Boy was I wrong.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

Parts still not available, so I dont know what that dealer is going to accomplish. This is absurd that they havent addressed it yet, esp considering they already let us know they are working on it. I wonder if the 09's have this issue, maybe replacing them with the 09 seat covers will fix it.

There is no way a dealer will upgrade it to leather, as the GM leather seat covers are out of this world expensive, and there wouldnt be any way to bill GM for a repair like that. Another option is to try ebay, I went on there yesterday and the had several OE sets of leather for sale for relatively cheap. $500 should buy you a whole set, and they arent all that hard to install. Just a suggestion. And before anyone yells at me for "why should I have to blah blah blah" I paid $1500 to upgrade to leather to avoid this on one of my trucks and bought the GM accessory seat covers for the other, which by the way look bad ass and were cheap. The look like leather from a couple feet away, but are weatherproof and fit like a glove. I'll take pics if anyone is interested.

I'll do that, but for now here is a pic form the GM accessories site with pricing. I said cheap earlier and I meant compared to getting leather. But really, for the quality of the cover and fit, they are worth it. This link is for the front seats, the rear bench is seperate and about the same price.

Interiors that don't wear well...imagine that ! This is a fundamental design issue that should be corrected by the next interior refresh..whenever that is..

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

#07-08-50-018B: Excessive Lint Accumulation on Ebony Colored Cloth Seats (Replace All Seat Covers, Headrests and Armrests) - (Jan 22, 2009)

Subject: Excessive Lint Accumulation on Ebony Colored Cloth Seats (Replace All Seat Covers, Headrests and Armrests)

Models: 2007-2009 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe

2007-2009 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL

Built Prior to October 1, 2008 and Equipped with Ebony Cloth Seats (RPO 19C and 19D)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to provide the field fix. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-08-50-018A (Section 08 -- Body and Accessories).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important: Implementation of this service bulletin by "GM of Canada" dealers requires prior Warranty Manager approval.

Condition
Some customers may comment on excessive lint accumulation on the cloth seat material. Darker colored seat fabric seems to show the condition more than lighter fabrics.

Cause
The source of the lint accumulation is not the seat fabric material. The seat material, though, exhibits a tendency to accumulate and retain lint from sources that come into contact with the fabric.

Correction
Important: All seats will need to be updated in the vehicle. Let customers with RPO 19D know that the appearance of the insert material will be noticeably different.

If the customer has ebony colored cloth seats, replace the seat covers (back and cushion), the headrests and the armrests with revised fabric. Refer to SI for the appropriate seat back and cushion cover, headrest and armrest replacement procedures.
