Excessive Lint on GMC seats

Hello, sorry if im in the wrong place. After some intense searching ive come across a GM bulletin 70850018 issued in 2007 about the seats on select models that have excessive lint.I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem. Are the dealers handling this? Thanks for any help.

Its so bad with these cloth seats that if my family rides with me i have to lint brush the interior almost everytime.

Heres a link i came across.

http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/inde...=article&id=17

Thanks for any help.I love my truck but this is really rediculous.Something needs to be done.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

I have a lint roller that works well on my 07 Silverado. I try to clean it up once a week, but you'd be surprised where lint shows up. Even on the back seat that is folded up and never gets used.....lint everywhere.

The lint situation drives me crazy enough to trade the whole truck in at times. Since I would tear leather seats, I'd have to go with another brand.

If it isn't too much, I think it's a reasonable request to have GM replace the seat covers or treat them with something that doesn't collect so much lint. I've never had a GM truck with the old mouse fur seats that collected lint like this.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

The bulletin used to give us part #'s to order replacement covers for this problem, but when we got them in they were wrong, now the bulletin says "parts not yet available" which to me means eventually they will have a replacement. I have a few customers waiting for a resulaution as well, so at this point all I can say is be patient. Another thing you can do is call customer assistance and let them know you have the concern, the theory is that the more people they know have the concern, the faster it will get fixed. Good luck.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

Shouldn't there be a recall or something like that?
My old SL2 had an issue like that, and the seats were recalled. They replaced the fabric.

I have the same problem with my bellybutton and have yet to find a permanent solution. Carrying a minivac gets to be such a drag.

What model GMC do you have? My Envoy and Sonoma don't have this problem at all, and the Envoy's got a dark interior.

I doubt it, now maybe if the lint piled up so much it made you slide out of the seat, but otherwise its just an apperance issue. I would be willing to bet the Saturn had some other sort of issue if it was actually recalled.

Only applies to the 07 GMT900 Trucks and SUV's. The basically went with a different material that really grabs onto the lint, and being a dark color, looks like you just took your black wool sweater out of the dryer.

Im sure the condition is the same since it is the same material, but the bulletin states for vehicles with Ebony (dark gray) interior. You cant see it as bad on the lighter ones. BTW, its not the seats that produce the lint, they just really grab onto the lint that is on clothes and other material that comes into contact with them.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

Reminds me of VWs entry level seats in the Golf and Jetta. You couldn't keep up cleaning those seats. They would pick up all kinds of crap and it would stick to the seat.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

My Gpa just mentioned today about the cloth seats in his 07 Avalanche making lots of lint and ravlings. They look nice, but compaired to GMT-800 seats, seem thin and kinda cheap. I wish these new seats had this same design, but with the other cloth and cushion type! You couldnt beat the cloth seats in the 800's IMO.

Interesting .....

Is this on the LT1/SLE1 cloth or the LT2/SLE2 seats? The "nicer" materials.

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

^^^The cloth seats are the same on all models, it is all Custom cloth. Its not like the GMT-800's where you could get the regular cloth or the upgraded "Custom" cloth. The only 2 options are Custom cloth 40/20/40 Split bench or Custom cloth buckets(standard on LT1)

Re: Excessive Lint on GMC seats

That's not true. The cloth isn't the same on all models. On the 2LT the seat inserts have more of a "nylon-type" material like the Work Truck models, whereas the 1LT has more of the softer lint-grabbing material. Also, have you ever seen the material on the Work Truck cloth seats? It's very comfortable, looks like it will wear like iron, and is really atractive in the two-tone ebony with light gray inserts.
