Equinox steering.

I have more of a question for the people here. Has anyone who owns or leases an Equinox had a problem with the steering rack? I have had mine replaced once and now it neededs to be replaced again because it makes noise over bumps. Dont get me wrong I love the vehicle but it hasnt been top-notch as far as trips to the service dept go. It also had the coolant issue and its on its second radio.

Wow! This sounds familiar. My 06 Saturn Vue is on its second radio already. As for the steering, does the steering wheel vibrate when you go over large bumps? Thats what mine does but I couldn't explain it to the service department.

Re: Equinox steering.

It has all been covered under warranty. One thing I can say is the dealer has been very good about the whole thing. All in all even with the things that have happened I will probably lease another one in 2009 when my lease is up. I am thinking some of this is 1st year things that needed to be worked out. cemaxc what it does is it feels a little like a bump or a clunk when you go over a bump or you notice it too when the front wheels spin if you get it on snow. You will also notice what appears to be a bumping noise when you hit certain bumps like going over railroad tracks or going over our poor excuse for a road. On the plus note they gave me a Cobalt for a loaner while mine is being fixed. It is a bit small for me but it is MUCH an improvment over the Cavalier in all areas. It is like a small luxury car even with the one I have being a low end model. I am pleased GM is finally realising people want GOOD small cars.

Re: Equinox steering.

Well, got it back with a new steering rack. It needs a new steering column bt they need to order that and get it put in next week. I love the vehicle but I am a little annoyed by the times it has needed to go to Gustmans to be fixed. I would get another one though in a heartbeat and hope that the new one would not have these things.

Re: Equinox steering.

sounds like there throwing parts at it, because they cant figure it out.

well looks like the rack didnt fix it, oh well its under warranty throw a column at it. anyone take time to look at the I shaft, we have had malibus with "rack" issues and we replace racks, then they come out with a bulletin on it. thanks GM really helps out our CSI scores. 3 months down the road vehicle comes back with same issue. this time it needs a I shaft.

im not complaining by the way, im just pointing out that GM engineers need to figure out what is going on with vehicles the right way, rather than just say well this didnt work try this, it doesnt make the dealer look good and it certainly doesnt make the tech look good, because it makes the tech look like they dont know what they are doing.

some of you will know exactly what im talking about and others will be dazed and confused.

i appologize in advance this past week has been rough so im not in the greatest mood

I understand what you're saying Triple-x08. My truck is the classic Silverado, an 06. You'd think that by now, GM would have had all the probs with these trucks fixed, right? Nope....7 yr old design and the I-shaft is still a prob. Very irritating. It's not a huge deal, but it is still an annoyance!

Re: Equinox steering.

The column did work. So I am happy about that. Hopefully it stays that way.

Re: Equinox steering.

For some reason coolant leaks and bad steering shafts have plagued GM for a long time. I guess they're in no hurry to fix them.
