Re: Enough!!

For every negative comment on dealers loosing sales for GM I could give you hundreds where the dealer did a great job and made the sale. I don't know of a single salesman that wakes up in the morning wanting to piss someone off or to blow a sale for GM.

Who knows what really happened this time. The union guy could have came in with a big chip on his shoulder, was rude or obnoxious, or possibly had an unrealistic expectation as to the price of the truck. This dealer had some time invested in selling this guy a truck so when the second dealer got involved they said no way. It happens every day at every dealership. My dealership won't trade a car or truck if one of our salesmen are activily working on selling it.

Thats hilarious I've yet to see a used 07 tundra on ANY lot. Not to say there are no used 07 Tundras out there. Whats the name of this Toyota dealership? I'd like to give them a call my dealership would LOVE to have some used 07 Tundras on our lot for good switch trucks.

What dealership has those trucks? A check of Toyota inventory (assuming it's correct) within 250 miles of Ann Arbor shows 5 used '07 Tundras.

Yup like I said I'm sure there are some 07 Tundras out there. I've seen just about every reason in the world for trading divorce, moving , budget, gas prices, etc. Did a quick serch on autotrader.com had a total of 247 07 Tundras and 2774 07 Silverados.

It seems like it would be hard to convince consumers and employers that union labor is "worth" more if union leadership isn't willing to pay a little more for it themselves.
Excellent point.

Re: Enough!!

The fact of the matter is the GM dealer didn't do enough to win the sale.....period. If they really wanted to sell him a vehicle, they should have show a grain of salemanship and made sure he got the GM he wanted.

Re: Enough!!

If you are Union you shoudl support Union, that is just common sense (and I don't particularly like Unions).

Dave Bonier (sp?) who works on one of the presidential campaign refused to use a microphone that was set up by non-Union labor at some fund raising event. Now that is commitment to the Union from some guy who even ISN'T Union (but has supported them for 20 years).

Re: Enough!!

I'd want more details first:
- How far are you from other GM and Chevy dealerships? If there's 5 within 30 miles, he was jumping the gun. If you live in the middle of nowhere and those 2 dealerships are the only two within 50 miles, he has a point.

- How much of a discount was this guy pushing for? Unless you recorded his conversation, you can't know if he said "I want $10,000 below invoice or I'm buying a Toyota!"

- On the other hand, dealership treatment really does matter. If the GM dealer staff was friendly, professional, quick, and courteous but said, "I'm sorry sir, this is our best offer", then your friend jumped the gun. If they ignored him in the dealer office, were rude, and did not give a good explanation as to why the Sierra is a superior purchase, then I understand why he bought something else. (That's not really a good reason to buy something else, but it is an understandable one.)

Excellent point. Thank you.

Every automaker has lemons. Doesn't matter if it's Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, or GM. If you have a problem and the closest dealerships are a pain, you're in trouble.

I can't speak for his friend, but many people go car shopping when their previous car breaks and the repair costs more than the vehicle is worth or the vehicle is totalled in a crash. Renting something while you shop for a replacement gets very expensive. Buying a beater car while you wait is a risk - if it's a dirt cheap purchase, it may not last long.

In those cases, the longer you wait to buy the more it costs you.

Re: Enough!!

only hearing one side of the story....from a guy trying to defend his new truck purchase, its easy to come to the conclusion that the GM dealer f'ed up. But I have a feeling this guy never wanted to buy the GMC and just wanted to low ball the GMC dealership and it didn't work, so now he is bad mouthing them.

Yeah, I can understand that. I guess when it comes to premeditated purchases then.

Re: Enough!!

I guess I don't see where the poster's friend did anything to deserve the comments like "i hope his camshaft breaks" and whatnot. He apparantly isn't a blatant toyota or gm hater, and it just sounds like he couldn't get the truck and deal he wanted from that gm dealer so he found somewhere else to get the deal he wanted. The part about watching his truck getting built and coming off the hauler would be kinda cool IMO.
