That generation of Accord/TL/CL were known for their poor transmissions. No surprise there.

Also, GM will at least admit it when they screw up. Honda takes forever. Just ask Minnesota Nice about his civic's transmission problem.

Hehehehehe...
She does have brand new brake rotors, and I got the Fuel Econ. to 30.4 MPG yesterday. And I just pumped more air into her tires.
So whadda ya think 08MalibuChris?

Actually, I am just joking. I'd rather an '09 with Bluetooth.
But if she gets too troublesome, you know where to find me...

Hah we'll see. I am heading over to dealership in about an hour.

Thanks everyone for responding. I hope everyone is right and this is not a big problem. If I don't feel comfortable with their answers I am going to ask them to order me an 09.

Re: 2008 Chevrolet Malibu V6

For a belt to break that fast is odd. Either the belt was bad or there should be something else wearing on it that shouldn't be too hard to figure out. I've never had a belt break on any of my cars ever. Or perhaps some road debris hit it? I guess anything is possible.

Someone earlier was suprised once to find a cigarette but in their air box under the air filter. I once found a cigarette in my air box as well, surprised me also. When people toss their cigarette butts out the window they bounce around quite a bit. I've heard they land in other peoples car windows at times.

Hopefully it turns out to be no big deal, the Malibu is a really nice car.

All right, keep us updated. I don't think it's anything big. But an '09 Malibu would be pretty sweet.

Re: 2008 Chevrolet Malibu V6

Thanks again to all that responded. Here is the update.

This morning I went to the dealership. They were just as shocked as I was and the Service Advisor told me they would put priority on getting my car fixed. He gave me a rental for the day. This was around 8am. I get my rental and go to work. Around noon he calls with an update (I've never actually had a service department call me. I always have to call them) He said indeed the belt broke. They did not have the part but they are having someone drive to another dealership to get the part. I thank him and hang up.

So around 3PM he calls and lets me know my car is ready. What happened was the belt wasn't put all the way on. It was a little over the edge and was rubbing which caused it to break. He said its all fixed and he made sure everything else was good.

I picked my car up at 4PM. Everything is good. Its driving smooth as butter again. I am happy

How disappointing.
I agree. EVERY single part on a GM car has been approved by GM... if they decide to use faulty parts than my problem is with GM, not some nameless sub sub supplier.

A broken belt isn't the end of the world... hope your car is repaired quickly and you're back on the road with no more problems, man (and welcome to GMi!)... but to say it's no big deal is easy for us to say... it isn't our brand new car!

Re: 2008 Chevrolet Malibu V6

That's good to hear! Chevy service departments are very helpful (well...depends on where you go. Most of them are). Get used to them calling you and updating you when you bring the Malibu in for servicing.
Glad to hear it's fixed, and I hope that your Malibu serves you well!
By the way, what'd you get for your rental?

I wish I could agree with you but I don't know. You see I haven't seen a service bay with the last 8 GM vehicles we have owned! I have no idea how the service is. And I really don't expect to find out anytime soon either!

It was refreshing getting good service. Everything about this dealership impressed me (easy buying experience, friendly service) They even brought me coffee and soda repeatedly during the buying process (which only took an hour)

Oh I have an 07 Chevy Cobalt for a rental. Surprisingly I liked the ride and it had enough pep (more than my old 06 Civic EX) Bad part was it was a BASE model so it hand roll up windows, horrible seats and no arm rest.

I love my Malibu. I am still trying to get use to it. Its been raining so every time I take of I spin the weels (not use to power yet)
