Exclamation 2007 silverado tires p245/70r17

i bought a brand new truck in June. at 6000 miles i started having problems with wear and tire vibration. i took it to my local dealer.
they stated that it was my driving style, and i must live on a dirt road.
well i don't live on a dirt road and nor do i dog my new truck.
after going to several dealers in my area. i happen to find someone
who also knew about this problem and to my suprise it was "GM".
THERE IS A COMPANY DOCUMENT STATING THAT THE P245/70R17
GENERAL AMERITRAC WITH THE DOT # A3 HAVE PROBLEMS.
THIS WAS KNOWN SINCE DEC 7,2006. HOW CAN GM ALLOW THIS TO
HAPPEN. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY DOES THIS NOT REMIND YOU
OF ANOTHER CAR MAKER?!!!! YEA LETS NOT FORGET THAT TIRE
MANUFACTURE EITHER!!!!! NOW WHAT SHOULD I DO?

HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM? IF SO WHAT DID YOUR DEALER DO TO HELP YOU.

Re: 2007 silverado tires p245/70r17

Tires are covered by the warranty for the first 36,000 miles so they should be covered, but it really sounds like the dealers are just trying to avoid doing warranty work, most dealers are like that. I'm guessing that document you found was a TSB, you should print it and bring it to the dealer with you to prove it's a known issue. If that doesn't work you should try calling GM directly to see what they can do for you.

PS. don't pay attention to a lot of people here, they're a lil insecure about anything bad being said about the Silverado.

Insecure??? I think I'm more than willing to assist with an issue...

Also, if there is an issue why wouldn't a dealer cover it...a warranty sale is better than NO sale!!!

Re: 2007 silverado tires p245/70r17

Subject:P245/70R17 General Ameritrac Tire Wear Vibration - keywords alignment edge front outer suspension tire vibration wear wheel worn #PIT4193B - (10/11/2007)

Models:2005-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe
2007 Chevrolet Silverado
2005-2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic
2007 GMC Sierra
2005-2007 GMC Sierra Classic
2005-2006 GMC Yukon Models

This PI is being updated to advise that the date codes applies to the original and replacement tires. Please discard PIT4193A.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:

Some owners may comment on Wear/Vibration/Flat Spotting on some P245/70R17 General Ameritrac. A tire construction change was made to help correct these concerns.
Recommendation/Instructions:

Check the date code of the tires and if they are not of the new construction, replace the tires. After receiving the new tires verify the replacement tires are of the new construction by check the date code.
These tires are built at two tire plants and the date code is different between the two plants. The complete eleven digit DOT number must be read to determine the plant and the date code. The first 2 digits designate the Plant and the last 4 are the date code.
If the first 2 digits are "P5" then the last 4 will need to be 4406 or later. If the first 2 digits are "A3" then the last 4 digits will need to be 4506 or later (see example below which is read as Plant "A3" and the 30th week of 2006). The 4 digit date code is read as the first 2 digits indicate the week of the year and the last 2 are the year, example 4406 is the 44th week of 2006.
Note: In most cases, only a partial DOT number will be on the outer side wall, and the complete DOT number will be on the vehicle side of the tire.

Note: If ordering tires from a General Tire Dealer please reference the following article numbers when ordering:
Black Wall - 1548107000
Outline White Letter - 1548108000
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Re: 2007 silverado tires p245/70r17

I've seen a couple sets of Ameritracs on brand new pickups roll of the truck with such horrible vibrations that the tires had to be replaced. Didn't know there was a TSB out for them, should have been out last year IMO. Good info GMC.

Re: 2007 silverado tires p245/70r17

I'm going to state the obvious here, but none of us have seen this guys tires. Sure there may be a "problem" with those tires, but flat spotting is a result of the vehicle being parked, so it is usually from sitting on the lot and a probelm right off the bat. They redesigned those tires to resist flat spotting better.

If a customer came to me with a vibration with 6,000 miles on it and his tires were chewed up from what appeared to be abuse or driving on rocks, why would the dealer refer to a bulletin about flat spotting?

So maybe he got "screwed" or maybe he just wants something for nothing. We dont know for sure, but quit blaming the dealer unless you know the whole story. Based on what he said this info that he says applies doesnt apply, IF this is the info he is referring to. BTW, this is the only info I am aware of.

What's the big whining about? Its covered by a TSB and your warranty. If a dealer is not helping you, go to one of the other dozen GM dealers in the area. GM is not in the business of screwing people. Address the issue in a professional manner and you'll get it fixed.

Re: 2007 silverado tires p245/70r17

I don't mean to come off like an ass but we all know this guy was never coming back. I know there are plenty of problems with the Silverado just like any other vehicle. I've never had a problem with a dealer. Everytime I've gone in for warranty repair work they have been very willing to throw parts at it. If there is something truly wrong with his tires they'd have been replaced.

Again, I can almost tell you 100% that what he has a problem with is not what the bulletin addresses. You are correct in saying that GM is not in the business of screwing its customers. He could simply have a tire balance issue, maybe it threw a weight. He could have a road force issue, that would require either a match mount or replacement of the affected tire. Or he could be bs'ing the dealer and trying to get them to fix a problem he created. We dont know that another dealer would do anything different.

Precisely. We do replace tires, however, in the last few years the tire problem has decreased substantially. A tire problem that develops at 6k is not due to flatspotting.

Have you talked to GM's customer service (not the dealer's) at all?
