2007 Aveo

I hate to say it, but my 2007 Aveo is on the verge of being a lemon. Within the first 24 hours of having it I had to have it towed because several electrical wires were loose and fell off the terminals around the starter, and the car didn't function at all. Then within a month (at 700 miles) I had it towed again because the alternator and battery cables were smoking (enough to make me sick to my stomach). The car would have caught on fire if I'd kept driving it. Now I've had it towed again because the wiring harness to the radiator cooling fan has shorted and as a result burned out the fan and now the car will overheat and the A/C won't work...which isn't nice at all in florida bumper to bumper traffic. Anyhow, the dealer has been great at trying to fix this mess of a car and roadside assistance has been great with getting it towed. I am not happy whatsoever with the quality of this car. I'd really like to get my money credited toward another GM vehicle. I'm tired of having a brand new car break down on me. One of the reasons I bought a new car is for reliability. I should have bought a GM vehicle assembled by American UAW workers. They build awesome trucks and SUV's.

Not true, my UAW assembled GM car was put together quite shoddily. I have had no reliablity problems so far, but exterior fit and finish is terribble.

Re: 2007 Aveo

assembly of a car is way less dependent on the LOCATION or union affiliation of the workers as on the willingness ofthe automaker to actually invest in proper QC and training.

This is GM trying to be cheap on the Aveo .. not the workers' being shoddy - **** like this happens - but it shouldbe caught on the way out ofthe factory and fixed,

Igor

How much QC or training would it take to remember to tighten the nuts on the terminals that hold the wires on the starter? At some point it becomes accountability on the individual and pride in their work.

Re: 2007 Aveo

There is a reason behind the dirt cheap cost on these cars. They are junk. Get rid of it before you really get trapped. Just imagine the thing with 50k miles or in your 5k miles! Nothing will work on it anymore.

Re: 2007 Aveo

I feel your pain. This is probably very depressing for you to go through- especially on a brand new vehicle. Keep us informed with whatever happens. Work with the dealer and see if there is anything GM or they can do.

Re: 2007 Aveo

I got it back yesterday. A new radiator cooling fan and wiring harness. I hope this is my last post in this thread, but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: 2007 Aveo

you will soon need a oil pump gasket, to add to your problems, we replace them on a daily basis, when we can get the parts, start seeing oil on the ground, check the dipstick and keep an eye on the oil, they have problems with them, luckily no engines have fried yet, that have come to us at least

Re: 2007 Aveo

My Mom has a 2007 Aveo and so far so good. Havent had to bring it back for anything. I am shocked at how good it is. I will watch though for oil on the floor.

Fingers still crossed, nothing since the last fix. I'm enjoying the Aveo and its 35mpg for now.

Re: 2007 Aveo

Best wishes, dude, and keep us posted.

No one likes to hear about these kinds of problems, but they do exist, and it's really upsetting.

You may not be spending 80,000 on a supercar, but you are spending a nice chunk of change on something that should have some quality to it.
