2006 1500 silverado tapping noise

i have a 2006 5,3 litre that has 6,000 miles on it and it has started to have a tapping sound in the engine compt. It sounds like a loose valve tappet, but im not sure. It only does this sometimes and doesnt seem to be temperature associated. any help appreciated

That's a tough one, it can vary depending on the noise and hard to say without hearing it. I cant think of any trucks I have had in for that type of noise since the old piston slap issue. Does it do it more when cold or is it random?

It sounds like a case of classic GM engine knock.

It seems to do it more when it has warmed up. It does not do it all the time just every once in a while. When i stop at traffic lights i seem to hear it. Thanks for your help. No i have not taken it to the dealer yet just trying to get some ideas.

Could be fuel injectors ticking but hard to say without hearing it myself, maybe an audio clip would help.
