Angry 2005 Uplander - I hate it!

I am not a first time buyer of GM products and feel taken by getting this Uplander. It is the worst purchase I have ever made in my life!

It is getting fixed for the 5th time, 20,000 miles.

Rotors have been replaced...they told me that had a little bit of rust on them...how does that happen?

Door molding coming off.

Replaced the rear shocks...the ride is still awful. You can feel every bump. For how much it cost is should be a nice smooth ride.

Does not start all the time, but the dealer wont even bother with it.

The brakes squeal...dealer said that is normal...why have I not had it on another GM car.

No seatbelt or latch in the back rear seat.

What about the doors....someone can get stuck in them since there are no sensors....I thinking about a lawyer for this one.

Doors with noise...they say they fixed it...yea right.

The radio/CD is in for the 3rd time. Keeps playing the same CD after its done. They say I don't know how to set it.....OK, why don't they do it.

I would gladly get another GM if they let me....I just want to get rid of this van. I even tried after 6 months and they told me to wait until 2 years and then maybe I could break even.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Cindy

Re: 2005 Uplander - I hate it!

Mods, why don't we just start an Uplander/Venture hate forum? Join the club of many dissatisfied GM van owners on this site! From now on, don't buy a van without checking the quality/reliability stats first.

We all feel your pain my friend. My advice- trade it in and get a Honda or Toyota.

These vans are single-handedly destroying GM.
Let us get this thread going so GM can see the damage.

Re: 2005 Uplander - I hate it!

I just want to tell you this cindy. Don't let this one crappy product scare you away from GM. GM is producing some very very good cars, and some ones in the future that will be ultra-competitive. We here at GMi pretty much admit that the Uplander is a piece of crap, and it makes GM look bad. Rest assured though, the Uplander (and it's stablemates) is pretty much the only GM vehicle that is "real crappy".

Re: 2005 Uplander - I hate it!

My parents have an 03 Olds Silhouette* & it's had no power train problems whatsoever with over 65k on it. Could the ride be smoother? Yes. Is it really that bad? No.

* Yes, I know it's the last gen, but they are pretty much the same.

There is no doubt that these vans are an old design that should have been abandoned 5 years ago due to platform age and significant quality issues, and there are better options for a minivan out there. If you buy a GM van knowing this you are either cheap or ignorant. Maybe in a few years, GM will make a successful return to the Minivan market, but if it is anything like the current offerings that would be a deadly move.

May this thread be helpful resource to anyone who might have the idea of buying a GM van. My advice: wait for the new Chrysler.

Re: 2005 Uplander - I hate it!

I am really sorry you are having such a big problem with your van. That is unacceptable for any automaker to make such a pile of **************** in the year 2007.
The only help I can offer is to try taking it to another dealership. Go to a Pontiac/Buick or Saturn dealership if there isn't another Chevy dealership close.

Re: 2005 Uplander - I hate it!

Why would you ever buy a GM minivan? Americans cannot make minivans!! The Uplander (Venture) are horrible compared to anything else in their class. Only the Kia and Ford Freestar are worse. Get GM to buy it back and go buy a Honda Odyssey... just look at the ratings and reviews on this van!

Re: 2005 Uplander - I hate it!

So far so good for my sisters 1998 Chevrolet Venture with 68,000 miles. It did need a steering rack when she bought it at 40,000 miles and an accelerator cable and just lately an Oxygen sensor but other than those things it has been really good. Way better than the 1996 Dodge Grand Carvan that the Venture replaced.

It's a shame GM can't get the Minivan right and they are abandoning the minivan all together!

Re: 2005 Uplander - I hate it!

When it comes to Americans and minivans, they just can't make a good one. American cars have come a long way in almost all segments lately, but minivans are not one of them. From my experience, Mopars are the worst reliability-wise, with most owners seeing the powertrain fall out from under them after 4 years / 60,000 miles. A neighbor whose '02 Caravan recently fell apart(in fact to the point that it was totaled) asked me what American minivan was good, and I didn't have an answer.

Re: 2005 Uplander - I hate it!

No excuse whatsoever for ANY quality issues on this vehicle. This is M.Y. #11 for this van (sorry, it IS mostly the Venture despite the ugly nose) and the kinks should have been worked out long ago. This vehicle demonstrates how little GM has cared about quality in the past. I can only hope this is the last vehicle they build with such little regard for quality and workmanship (and styling).

What's the point of the poll. Why do you think the majority people in GMI have an opinion on the ride of this Uplander POS?

Re: 2005 Uplander - I hate it!

ive got 2 answers for you

1) the doors. don't worry, if they hit something they go back. trust me, its the same on the venture, ive tested it with my arm a few times and it doesnt even hurt.

2) the brakes. we had squeely set of brakes on our venture, as soon as we got new pads, the squeeling was gone.
