Re: '08 Saturn Astra Lemon.. what do I do?

What has your sales person at Saturn had to say about all this?

Our Saturn dealer has a 30 day money back or trade deal on their used cars.

45 days after taking delivery of our '08 VUE, we had a no start issue with it. I jump started it and brought it in.
While there we talked to the manager and sales person.
Explained that while we loved the car, this makes us nervous.
They were willing to honor that return policy for another 30 days even though we were already 15 days past the original 30 day cut off.
Got that in writing.

And this is on a used Saturn, not a new one like yours.
Turned out to be a battery, and it's been fine since. (crosses fingers)

Re: '08 Saturn Astra Lemon.. what do I do?

I called my salesman yesterday... and explained the problems ive been having. The dealer offered me 11,000 trade!! And I paid 15,500 just a little over a month ago. And he acted like they were doing me a big favor at that number. They're closing in less then two weeks so im just in a big mess. I have no idea what to do at this point.. the dealer acts like there is nothing wrong with the car. I filled out a BBB complaint but does GM have to respond!? Thanks so much for the help guys.

Tell them $12,000 and they have a deal. Turn around, and run from small GM cars and don't look back for a few years.

Re: '08 Saturn Astra Lemon.. what do I do?

If I make the trade I'll still be put into a new GM. He said $16,999 for a Aura but I don't think it makes sense for me to lose $4500 when I still have an almost brand new car. I'm just worried about the lemon law not working out. I have a non related question, why some times when you check a carfax it shows the vehicle being serviced, yet sometimes when you get the vehicle serviced it doesn't show up?

The fact yours is closing may make the difference in their attitude.
From what I was told, ours is staying open for at least the foreseeable future.

I'd be offended by their offer and attitude too.

I wish all the best for you.

If its a the same dealer it may deend on what was done if if at a different dealer it could be that dealer does not have carfax access its records. My store does not use computers for the shop records so carfax cant track service with us.

Re: '08 Saturn Astra Lemon.. what do I do?

I just helped my customers through the lemon law here in Florida GM bought it back even before the state got involved. Most dealers are willing to help there customers through the process. Your dealer should be in your corner to help you. In florida it has to be in the shop for 15 days or in for the same problem 3 times. Gm has several option buying it back fixing it and extendeding the warranty or show the customer has caused the issue. If its a good dealer they will help you.

Re: '08 Saturn Astra Lemon.. what do I do?

Thanks, when I asked the dealer regarding the lemon law they simply said, "We haven't had the issue of one of our cars being a lemon in the eighteen years we've been here" and then they've had my car for three days with no calls.. so maybe they're actually trying to find the problem this time I guess I'll see.

Re: '08 Saturn Astra Lemon.. what do I do?

Earlier, you mentioned you filed out a BBB complaint. Did you file with the BBB autoline, under your state's "Lemon Law", or simply file a BBB complaint?

Once a BBB autoline is filed - it is the manufacturer who must respond and deal with the process, not the dealer. You can continue to take the car to a delaer for service and/or repairs under the new-car warranty, but the ball is in the court of the manufacturer.

If you filed a lemon law complaint - you will probably be offered an extended warranty to "go away". If your car meets the criteria for a lemon - you must decide whether to pursue the matter or accept whatever the manufactuer offers.

Good luck. Keep us informed.

Re: '08 Saturn Astra Lemon.. what do I do?

When you say I can accept whatever they offer, would they only be offering a warranty or could it be for like a certain percentage of what I paid, or a vehicle exchange? I don't completely get how the vehicle exchange works either. I filled out a BBB Autoline Case, I need to mail it away still.

Re: '08 Saturn Astra Lemon.. what do I do?

Lemon laws vary by state. Check here (http://www.indianaconsumer.com/consu.../lemon_law.asp) for procedures and coverage that applies in YOUR state. Good luck. It's frustrating, I know but things happen. My sister bought a new (non-GM) van recently and each new battery lasted about two weeks. They finally identified it as a short in the stereo setup but electrical issues can be painful to wait out.
Again, whichever way it goes, good luck.

Re: '08 Saturn Astra Lemon.. what do I do?

After having my car for five days I just got a call that nothing is wrong with it. This is starting to get ridiculous. But, I also got a call from GM Business Relations about the BBB claim I filed. I was unable to answer. I'll have to call them tomorrow I hope it's good news. Anyone have any other ideas of what I could do?
