Re: upcoming Nissan Maxima diesel only manual?

That car is going to be a sales disaster waiting to happen. So few people buy Diesel cars as it is, and very few people buy manuals.

Look at it the other way - those, who buy diesels, would probably buy manuals.

America needs to learn how to shift!

What they need to do is get a better transmission, would a DSG work in this case? I think VW is going that route for its next generation TDI powered cars.

Re: upcoming Nissan Maxima diesel only manual?

Didn't the first-gen Maxima come in a diesel? I agree that it won't sell- why buy this car when you can have an Infiniti G for bascially the same money. I'd like to see a diesel version of that car instead.

There are dozens of vehicles for "basically the same money." why not cross shop a lucerne with BMW 3 series? thats basically the same money....but price is not the only thing that determines a car purchase.

I wouldn't mind. I love shifting. diesel + manual = better mpg and distance. I'm not feeling the maxima design though.

Maxima and G35 are made by the same company (never mind the badge) and have similar "4 door sports car" aspirations (so the Maxima isn't likely to appeal to ES350/Lucerne intenders). Their overall length and wheelbase are within a few inches of each other. They have the same motor in slightly different states of tune. They have a similar interior design.

Just like comparing the 3-Series and Lucerne.

Re: upcoming Nissan Maxima diesel only manual?

I'd bank on there being exactly zero chance that it will be a manual only in the US, unless they've lost their minds.

Will the diesel be available in 2009?
