200hp from a naturally-aspirated 2.0L as the base engine? Wow!

The 2.5-litre is base unit in all N/A Scoobies. It puts out 170 horsepower. A normally-aspirated 2-litre engine would need direct injection to attain 200hp. Also JIS figures are a tad bit higher than SAE or DIN.

Guess who's waiting for this to come out before he buys a new car?

Believe me, 200 isn't enough for Subarus. All Subarus are heavy and have power killing AWD. They are a great drive, don't get me wrong, but they need more power than just 200. Also, I hope they scrap the current base 4cyl throttle mapping. Its incredibly annoying to be half way into the throttle before there is any measurable acceleration.

Oh yes, all Subaru needs after turning the Impreza into a Daewoo Lanos lookalike is a people mover - didn't we all want a Subaru minivan all along? Three cheers for the former sports car maker!

they also need to scrap that dated 4speed auto in lieu for a 5. they need a new engine even though they made a boxerdiesel.

Aren't they going to balance that out with the Legacy STI (see other thread) ??

Not sure if you can balance ugliness and a crossover. Either you build nice sports cars or outdated plasticky thingies and people movers.

no it doesnt.
Of course its likely easier to attain that rating with DI.

The S2000's powerplant makes more than 200hp with 2.0L (and 2.2L)
Honda's K20 2.0L makes 3shy of 200hp.

Honda has a 4 cylinder with 200 hp and it doesn't have direct injection.

Honestly you don't need a massive amount of power to move a car, and besides, that's the nature of 4 cylinder engines. Don't like it? Don't get a 4 banger.
