Scion prices new xD

http://www.leftlanenews.com/scion-prices-new-xd.html
Scion newest model, the xD, will be priced at $14,550 when it goes on sale in August. That's a fairly substantial $1150 more than the model the new xD replaces.

The '07 xA started at $13,400 and, like the xD, it offered an for $800. The xD is about the same size as the outgoing model, but it features styling more akin to the boxy xB. The xA never met the sales success of its boxier brother, so Scion is hoping that the new model will provide the visual link to the best known Scion.

Scion also released fuel economy figures for the xD: 27/33 for a manual and 26/32 for the automatic. These figures are based on the EPA's new testing procedures, but they should stack up about the same as the outgoing xA.

Re: Scion prices new xD

Seems like a good deal for a 5-door with a good level of standard equipment and good fuel economy.

everytime i see xD, i think of that expression XD, the closed eyes and the open mouth. Maybe Scion didn't mind that since they sale cute cars.

Re: Scion prices new xD

I just saw an ad this morning on Sports Center that was a cartoon with a very very very weird theme with heads being ripped off and villanous creatures coming out of the sewers attacking the population above ground and it ending with a book closing and a head bouncing through the air landing on the hood of the new xD.

I missed the wording but I caught something about the '.......Scion Deviates.....' This is not your normal Camry / Prius ad.

Edgy marketing to the extreme...but it might just grab the attention of the 16-20 y.o. crowd of shoot'em-up game players.

Re: Scion prices new xD

I do not like Scion's marketing idea for the xD (Little Deviants), at all. I think it is grim, dark, grotesque, and not appealing for the vehicle, but I suppose that's why they did it.

I do, however, the the xD is a fantastic car. The front has yet to fully grow on me, as it reminds me of the Yaris, but the interior and most of the exterior is very, very good looking for a car of that price, especially with the equipment it comes with standard.

27/33 MT mpg is pretty nice, too. It's not really my style, but I'd be lying if I said I never considered trading my Si in for this for the room and price alone.

Re: Scion prices new xD

I think I like the xD a bit more than the new xB. The xD is truer to the first gen Scions.

Re: Scion prices new xD

I prefer it over the xB, but I'm not a big fan of the xD's styling either. I think Toyota lost it's touch with Scion and it being a "hip" brand.

xD seems like a better buy than the Yaris. And better looking too!

It does...do the seats lay flat and make a "bed"? These little vehicles are perfect for so many reasons that have already been covered here.

The xB wasn't the best "Ride" though. Has that been improved?

Re: Scion prices new xD

The new xD looks heads and shoulders better than the POS xA my friend's dad drives. Everytime I see that thing I want to puke because it looks like a little guinea pig or something. But Toyota is really lacking with this marketing because I haven't seen one commercial or anything for it.

Re: Scion prices new xD

I agree, the xD is a huge improvement over the xA inside and out. It's a very good buy even at the increased price because most of the options are standard.

You probably saw the ad with your eyes but it may not have hit home. I must not be in the target demographic either because it turned me off big time. Very odd and repulsive ads. I don't understand how they're supposed to work.

I guess since the xB has gone mainstream as the 'Camry wagon' the iconoclastic model now is the xD. '...little Deviants..'

This is the one that will turn off all the parents and adults, making it the de facto choice of the young urban independents.

Re: Scion prices new xD

What I want to know is how will the xD MPG compare to #'s for the 08 Yaris, a 7mpg drop is really big, even with the new EPA testing, it seems like most are dropping about 3 or 4 max.
