I beg to differ. The acceleration on the Mercedes is much too smooth. You can go 0-60 in 6 seconds but it feels like 10 seconds. Going into the turns has minimal body roll but is too soft. AMG on the other hand... now thats how a luxury car should feel like. Everyone has their own definition of luxury, mine is it not being boring to drive... guess you don't agree on this one.

As for MB's reliability, most of it has to do with powertrain, very little with added technology. My friend had to bring in his E-Class so many times because of engine block issues, piston issues and transmission issues. I believe it is 2-3 years old. There isn't anything stunning on MB's technology, they are just added features that in most cases have nothing to do with the car functioning.

When I rode in my neighbor's Bentley it sure as hell didn't have those quirks I found in the Mercedes that made the car boring to drive. Last I checked it was considered the next level luxury. Mercedes is a chauffeur's car, not a driver's car, unless you go with AMG.

198 HP

24/35 MPG.

OUTSTANDING. After the SuperBowl commercials, I showed the Sonata to my mom and she's seriously considering it for her next car. Hyundai hit it out of the park.

I can't wait to hear more about the Elantra.

That new 2.4 Sonata gots some balls. Watch it drag a Toyota Camry in a race.

I remember having these conversations with my dad when GM decided to go with V6s in Oldsmobiles and Buicks instead of V8s.

That was probably put together by Hyundai's marketing department, and the Camry had the better start. The real test I think is who has better highway passing power?

The way it roped in that Camry I would imagine the Sonata has the better passing numbers.

And it looked so good doing it too.

Yes but only because the film is nicely produced. You certainly aren't going to have problems with 4-banger Sonatas eating your BMW for lunch...

Yeah, we probably disagree for the most part. I feel a true luxury car should get to speed without much fuss. Though I do understand your point of view. The S550 can hit 60mph in 5.4 seconds.. Very impressive - but you don't feel it.. To me, that's fine - but if you want something sporty and really fast (AMG), it's going to cost a WHOLE lot of money.

Yeah, but they're not putting the fastest Sonata in a race with the fastest Camry - are they? I understand they're both 4 cylinders but Toyota offers a V6 if you want it..

Yeah, this Camry would get passed up easily on the highway by this Sonata.

I disagree. The video is a disappointment for Hyundai. On paper the Sonata is lighter, and has 29 more horsepower (17% more). It takes about 13 seconds to catch the Camry and another 3 seconds to pull ahead by a full car length. Either of those cars goes from a dead stop to 60 mph in more or less 9 seconds and probably does the quarter mile in 16.5 seconds or so.

So if you drag race a Camry 4-cylinder from a dead stop, you'll both hit roughly 75 or 80 mph before you catch up with him, almost a quarter of a mile from where you started. In other words, in real world driving the seat of the pants difference between the two cars is so small you won't notice.

The Sonata may be better looking, cheaper, and more economical. That's good for Hyundai. But that 198 horsepower rating is all on paper, it looks like there is no real world benefit.

First off, the video was not produced by Hyundai.

2nd, there were a no. of diff. camera angles - this one shows that the Camry never had the lead.

Re: REPORT: 2011 Hyundai Sonata won't offer a V6!!!

I'd like to see a race between the most powerful Sonata and the most powerful Camry...

Anyway.. I saw one of these on the road today - and I have to say - it's a damn good looking car.. Pictures and videos do not do it justice - at all... This is a really nice car.. This new Audi designer is doing great for Hyundai/Kia...

The video didn't come out very good because I was concentrating on my driving and simply holding my iPhone in the direction of the car. I was actually surprised it even came out this good when I reviewed afterwards...

To me the new Sonata looks simply stunning in photos....sleek, cohesive, great stance, quasi-futuristic. I look forward to seeing one in real life. Hyundai has come a LONG way. I sure hope that GM takes note of that. I don't know much about ICE but I gather the V8 in the Genesis might be better than anything in GM's stable.
