Renault aiming for cheapest car title in India

FULL STORY: http://www.motobullet.com/news.php?id=10225 (motobullet)At Renault’s annual meeting last Friday, the company’s President and CEO Carlos Ghosn laid out plans to get aggressive in emerging markets. “In India, Renault and Nissan are developing an ultra low cost vehicle with the Bajaj group, benefiting from its expertise in the light vehicles and the knowledge of the Indian market,” said Ghosn. “We are aiming for a price of $2,500.”
While the $2,500 target seems similar to where the Nano’s pricing starts, it worth a slightly closer look. The Nano starts at 120,000 Rupees and Renault’s car is aimed for a base price of 110,000 Rupees – currently a difference of about $225.
There is no word yet on how Renault-Nissan and its Indian collaborator Bajaj will able to knock down their pricing model to sub-Nano levels. It has been rumored that the car’s pricing has been the chief roadblock that delayed this small car’s release date from later this year until 2012.
