Mitsubishi Raider based on the Dodge Dakota
Not bad looking, although not enough to save the division.

Already another thread about this.
Geez people, check to see if a thread was already started before you try and start a news thread!! |
IMO there's not much that will save Mitsubishi. you couldn't give me that ugly thing, an dit makes it even worse that it's based on the POS Dakota. Mitsu should hang it up and back quietly out of the U.S. market. they are nearly worthless with the exception of the Evo, and even that's not enough to keep them here.

Re: Mitsubishi Raider based on the Dodge Dakota
I wish Mitsubishi would have made an attempt at their own pickup.. I know money is an issue but I'm not a fan of Dodge trucks..

Thanks for the cute message you sent to me, but Mitsubishi has poor quality. You can check several independent surveys of initial quality and longer-term quality, and Mitsubishi falls flat on its face. Perhaps you need to do a bit of research? I'm not so sure how you rate surviving a crash as pure quality, but so be it. |
Re: Mitsubishi Raider based on the Dodge Dakota
This company went down the drain so fast in the last few years its amazing. It took a while for Mitsu's atrocious quality and engineering to reach the minds of consumers after mechanics already knew about them for years. I know one person who bought a Gallant (however it's spelled) and she had to replace the transmission at under 100k miles and called it junk because so many things started to screw up on it. Mitsu sealed its fate when it created a bar of soap and called it the Eclipse after making a boy racers import dream, fast or not, for the Eclipse for years. There is nothing it can do now with so many cookie cutter cars that really shot the Mitsu look.

wow so full of hate. Although I have to agree that the Evo is probably the only thing Mitsu can smile about. They are not near broke and many car comapanies have made comebacks. I just hope this one will do the same I just wanted to add my opinion on the 4 banger eclispe. I owned one and for that era, there was hardly a better car for people looking to up the power on a budget. Although the tranny was something to be imporved on, those motors can handle a lot of boost on stock and built motors. I mean what honda block can you spend 1200 on and have good to 800 hp? The only true acillies heal for the eclipse was the weight. It handled well and responed amazingly to bolt ons, but a heavy car is not going to be looked at as a true performance machine. When the 4 banger Eclipse first came out, what other car can you have a reliably 300whp on only 1500 to 2000 in mods? I think it was a great car, but Mitsu's decosion to market the Eclipse towards adults who dont mod and away from the youth who are into modding was the dumbest mistake in the companies history in my opnion. If the ecplise remained a 4 cylinder turbo and cut weight instead of adding weight, I honestly think Ecplise sales would have risen considerably over the past years. I mean the billion dollar tuner industry is only getting stronger yearly. Sometimes I really wonder about corporate decisions. It seems like common F ing sense to me. my .02 |
Re: Mitsubishi Raider based on the Dodge Dakota
They put in a v6, instead of a turbo 4, to try and market to adults and your right- It was a mistake, but they had a lot of problems because the younger buyers wouldn't finish paying their cars off. Instead of offering a trim and power plant to appeal to older buyers, they took the car and changed its attributes in an effort to change its image. Now, no one is really interested. Mitsu should have concentrated on their other models and left a successful mix alone. Another Eclipse that looks good with a turbo 4 for the high school kids wouldn’t be a bad thing to salvage some of Mitsu’s former glory amongst the youth, if they do have to turn out the lights. Just make sure to filter the high risk buyers better or does it even matter anymore?

Re: Mitsubishi Raider based on the Dodge Dakota
I have owned two different Mitsu trucks and both were outstanding, I only had tranny issues on both. People forget that vehicles are supposed to be serviced and at the recommended intervals, most americans are too lazy to do this or think it is the coporate way of getting their money. I say all this to say that my experience with Mitsubishi "quality" was great, and I would love to see Mitsubishi import the truck they sell in Australia. I know their off road capability, and what items need to be watched(service wise), and could easily make one last 200k miles plus. On the other hand I had a Dakota, and had to sell it within 6 months due to the amount of repairs required to keep it on the road.
