LOOK OUT YARIS - All new Mazda 2 to be released in Australia in September

It seems that the small car sector in Australian motoring is to get whole lot more exciting. These pictures show the final shape and look of the new Mazda 2 which is scheduled to arrive in Australia in the second half of 2007.

The new car shares the same platform as the 2008 Ford Fiesta. It definately has a more stylish shape and is marginally shorter in the body than the current Mazda 2, but is slightly wider. A very good looking car and built to Mazda's impeccable build quality it will more than take the fight to the class-leading Toyota Yaris.

The car is to be officially unvielled at the Geneva Motor Show in two weeks time. For European markets it is to feature a 1.3 and 1.5 litre motor as well as deisel variant. For Australia it will carry over the existing 1.5 litre engine which delivers excellent economy and significant power, whilst the new body is said to be lighter than the outgoing car.

Underneath, the new 2 has received a significant upgrade of suspension and other mechanicals. Mazda is also said to have worked hard to make the larger, more functional and more stylish cabin a quieter place to travel.

Despite the obvious improvements, Mazda is said to be working hard to ensure the 2 maintains its price competitiveness against budget-priced rivals.
