Re: Look Who Won Suv Of The Year!

I think this wasn't a bad choice. The Xterra is pretty cool and I like the style to it. All it needs is an AUX-input and there you go!

Don't worry FordRules, I know your mad because Ford didn't win.

Re: Look Who Won Suv Of The Year!

The Xterra is that little SUV that has the "extreme" commericals right? I don't get small SUV's winning SUV awards.... They are cool, but they should have a "small-SUV" category for them.

Re: Look Who Won Suv Of The Year!

The Xterra is a Midsize SUV. Nissan has a compact SUV called the X-trail in Canada, which might come state-side in the next couple of years.

I see, it just looks small. The commercials annoy me. But at least Nissan got rid of that dog. Man that was ANNOYING!

Re: Look Who Won Suv Of The Year!

I think the U.S. is getting the next generation X-trail, but I'm not entirely sure.

Re: Look Who Won Suv Of The Year!

The new XTerra is one of the better SUVs on the market. The RWD truck platform is new (based on Titan's), the 4.0L v6 makes 265hp/284tq, 6speed manual standard, it's not expensive (costs around $21k-$24k), its exterior and interior design are nice and neat, and it's plenty capable on-road and off-road. It's not a poser machine... it's as rugid and capable as it looks, whatever that means to you.

I really don't see what's really wrong with the new XTerra, and maybe that's why it won MT SUV of the year--it's just a really good and true SUV all around.

Re: Look Who Won Suv Of The Year!

I think Xterra is Compact size. Nissan has a midisize called the Pathfinder. Its just the Xtrerra is based off of a truck platform as for most compacts are FWD. (Jeep Liberty is the only other truck-based compact I can think of)

Re: Look Who Won Suv Of The Year!

Pretty quick to pull out the bias card there, FR. The Xterra is actually a pretty sweet little SUV (the new one, anyway). Good for off-roading, strong engine, and good interior space, not to mention its price. Fuel ecomony sucks, but what else is new. Anyway, who do you think should have won it? The Explorer? H3 had to be in the running, probably lost because of the engine. MT's always complaining about the power in the H3.

Despite the fact that it brings nothing new to the table...

The only thing I've found wrong w/ the xterra, I test drove one while my Murano was in for service, was what seemed to be a pretty high center of gravity combined with an almost too powerful engine. Having rented explorers, TB/Envoys, Libertys and Durangos maybe 2 or more of each this year, and driven a 00 Pathfinder for a few years, I've driven a few thousand miles in SUVs. I don't remember ever feeling like I was tipping over while going around corners like I did in the xterra. Granted I'm most used to driving the Murano lately, which is car-based and automatic AWD vs manually controlled 4x4, but while driving on a curved highway entrance ramp, the Xterra felt as if its lean was becoming a tipping... and as I recovered, it almost seemed as though I was gonna tip over to the other side... the case was the same when cornering. The engine seemed extremely powerful for the vehicle... My pathfinder had 170hp, and was way underpowered... but the prev. gen xterra was definately less refined, less powerful, and less enjoyable to drive... I guess if I owned the new Xterra, I'd get used to the way it handled... but I've never had this feeling driving any of the other SUVs I've driven

Anyone else driven the new xterra and experienced this?
