Hyundai VI luxury sedan caught testing

It seems that even Hyundai will try in luxury market. How much power wil 5.0l T have? I think it will go over 500 hp.

The new model will grow in size and is expected to adopt three new powerplants from the Tau engine family. The range of V8 powerplants will include the 4,6L and 5,5L engines, ranging from 375hp for the 4,6L to 450 hp in the 5,5L. A turbocharged 5,0L engine was also rumored to be on its way.

Re: Hyundai VI luxury sedan caught testing

So why is Hyundai not creating a separate brand (at least in the brand-obsessed North-American market) for these high-end vehicles? Or will this one not come here?

Because they have no idea how the U.S. market works. This new vehicle will look right at home beside the Accent and Elantra.

On the contrary, they've learned from Toyota and Nissan just how expensive it is to launch ANOTHER brand. Mazda considered it and then did the budgeting...and thought otherwise.

I agree that the US needs an "expensive" brand to sell a luxury car while other countries may allow luxury vehicles and economy vehicles under the same roof. But Hyundai seems to want to pull its brand up rather than keep it down by launching a step-up brand. It take many years, but it's possible.

Re: Hyundai VI luxury sedan caught testing

As far as I know, this is Korea only, to compete against Ssangyong's new 100K sedan, the Chairman W, and to battle the Mercedes S class in home, Korea. It won't make it to North America, at least for now. Even if it does, I doubt it will sell, and I strongly think Hyundai should wait and see how their Genesis do in US first, before they bring in even larger model to the North American market, IF they are smart.

Mazda's experiment didn't go too well...

I've said from the beginning that the Genesis' real benefit in the short term would be to improve the image of Hyundai to the point thier mainstream products are perceived better.

Your right. Change what people think of Hyundai.

Just think if the following cars were sitting on the showroom floor together. How ridiculous would that be?

Re: Hyundai VI luxury sedan caught testing

Not sure if this is an old news, but the korean internet site had this, and I wanted to share.

It's all in Korean, but it does have a pic, even though it's an old pic that everyone have seen already.

I've translated the Korean and posted on my sites, so if you want to read it, you can do so here:

Re: Hyundai VI luxury sedan caught testing

I hope Hyundai is succesful with the Genesis coupe and sedan, and shows us that not EVERYONE is worried about the badge on their car. If I get to the large luxury RWD sedan stage at some point in my life I'll buy something like a Genesis long before I'll pay more for the same at BMW or Mercedes or Lexus.
