Re: Hyundai Genesis Audio system

Well, it has already been confirmed that the coupe simply have no room to take in that V8, so GM don't have to have to worry about it. As for Lexus, and Cadillac, I know they have set fans of their cars who will NEVER shop other brands. The loyal fans of Lexus, Infinity, and Cadillac, not sure about Buick, are so attached to their favorite brand, and it will be very tough to shift their shopping list away from their favorite brand, especially an up and comming new model from the company who built stuffs that were once considerred Piece of crap. It will take at least another decade in order for Hyundai and Kia to reach where Japanese are now(They are close in quality, but in public conception and preference, they are just not there yet). There are just still too many enemies against Hyundai's and Kia's in terms of preference. Just look at the resale value. Korean cars are among the WORST, and it will not improve right away. That's why the history of their quality is so important. They really screwed up big in the beginning and that is hurting them. No matter how good their cars are now, it will still take them time for EVERYONE to respect them as the quality products. GM, Ford, and Japanese need not worry, at least not yet. That's how I see it.

What are the demographics for these loyal customers that wont consider other brands? I don't know about Lexus, but I'm willing to bet most of these loyal Cadillac customers are retired, and are a dying breed. Those are not the customers Hyundai is going after, it seems to me that Hyundai is going after younger people just starting their careers, who instead of getting into a 3-series Bimmer, or a Lexus IS would rather go for the much larger and more luxurious Genesis for roughly the same price.

That is called Passive Entry and is quite common on a lot of cars starting in 2009-2010

Demographics? I'm 42, I have an MBA and I'm the CIO for a large engineering firm... The house is paid for and I make a very comfortable 6 figures. Why is GM turning its back on me? I love my Caddy... I will be buying a new car in 2-3 years... No 32V V8 means that I will be shopping (for the first time) somewhere else. My wife loves the LS... My parents (late 60 and early 70) Left GM in 2005 and now drive a Lexus.. they will be buying a new IS in 2009

The nose of the genesis is UGLY even if it proves to be a "good" car its probably not on my (or my parents) list... The problem is that nothing that GM makes will probably on my list either

If GM sold the SLS here, that car probably would be on the list... if it had a nice NEW DI 32V V8 I probably would be buying one a year early.

Re: Hyundai Genesis Audio system

Interior of Genesis looks old and boring. They should have been use interior theme similar to Sonata/Veracruz.

JD Power VDS 2003:

Hyundai - 342 pph

JD Power VDS 2007:
Chevrolet - 226 pph
Hyundai - 228 pph

Today Hyundai is no more crap than Chevy and it's improving fast.

I won't argue there, but I bet Hyundai won't have much trouble convincing younger people that they're not the same company they were 10 or even 5 years ago. If the car is reviewed well, and is proven to be a high quality and reliable car, along with a good marketing campaign, I don't think Hyundai will have any trouble selling them. I think, if anything, fuel economy(on the v8, have numbers been released yet?), and general tanking of the economy will hurt it more than the Hyundai name. Judging by the way my friends reacted to it when they showed those two commercials during the Super Bowl, it'll be a hit.

Well, Buick has one thing always in their favor.
That is it's RIDE. Very hard to beat that.

Buick HAS to come up with more Tech Toys though. That is a given.
Like their LaCross needs a NAV unit and Blue-Tooth.
THAT is what a younger family would want.

This Hyundai is not that bad. However, for that amount money I would rather get a CTS or a Lexus...or even an Avalon.

The problem is that a good chunk of people that are over (and under, for that matter!) 25 think that GM = crappy cars too. If you're going to buy crap, why not buy the crap that has more horsepower and more equipment?

(I don't actually think that either the Buick sedans or the Genesis are crap... just making a point...)

What model year car do you have now?
You could always buy a very well maintained Used Cadillac.
What is wrong with the CTS? Too small?
I think that is the best car GM has right now.

Your parents are considering a IS?
A fully loaded IS250 w/AWD is around $40K.
I like those myself but the back seats are too tight.
But, if it is just for your two parents then it can work as a 4 door/2 seater so to speak.

I understand what you are saying though.
GM ticked me off with Buick.

Right. It's not that impressive that the Genesis has it. But it would have been noteworthy if it was absent.

Re: Hyundai Genesis Audio system

I knew somebody gonna use Lexicon audio in their cars. If GM wants Caddilac to be exclusive, they should trash Bose and go for audiophile brands like Mark Levinson or some. Bose and Monster are robbing the American public blind with their bull dung their products.

GM ticked me off with Buick.
1) 2002 STS "W" rated...loaded... "Blue Chip" Gorgeous Car. Ever time I talk about buying something new... The wife and kids all go nuts. They all love the "blue bomber"
2) Used? Probably not... I'm hopeful about the new Deville replacement. No V8 is going to be an issue. I'm hoping they keep the S/C Northstar or maybe the BMW v8 rumors are true.
3) Yes the CTS is still a little small...
4) I did look at one last week... I agree they are very nice. I wish GM put that much effort into the current STS.
5) Yes
6) Ya $40K plus or minus... The probably won't go for the XM radio...
7) They are long ago empty nesters (though my sister likes to go home for a few months after each divorce ) A tight back seat is not an problem...

For me and a growing family I need a huge back seat and I don't want a ute or a crossover.

First of all I just wanted you to know that I am not the sharpest knive in the drawer at times...<sigh>
I asked what model year you owned and never really let it sink in with your screen name.

I really can understand your plight.
I myself almost bought a 1999 STS (Used of course).
I still think that design is one of the best I have ever seen from Cadillac.
Yes, the newer stuff is good. But, that STS and SLS design just feels right.
They look wider and more stable on the road just standing still in a parking lot.

You are correct. They are trying to put you into a Crossover now.
The SRX is not too shabby but, it is not what YOU want and that I can understand.
I am sure you heard it all from the sales staff at your Cadillac Dealer.
to me the SRX is a whole lot better this year then ever before and I always like that design from the get go.

BUT, it is not a true full size Cadillac Car that you were brought up to believe and look for in a Cadillac.

Is this 'Blue Chip'? Here is an 08 STS:

Interior 08:

Are these pics below close to what you have in your STS?
I simply love this design. I can't express it enough.
It looks roomier (more open) and more comfortable to me anyways.
Like I said I fully understand what you want.
I have the same feeling in my Buick.

Side Interior 02 STS:
