Hyundai Concept

Remember that RWD Hyundai rolling around? Well I think this it it, only in concept form:

Quote:
We've collected quite an archive of posts showing you spy shots of a large V8-powered, rear-wheel drive prototype sedan from Hyundai called the Equus, for lack of an official name. Things are getting more official ahead of the New York Auto Show in early April where this car, the Concept Genesis, is slated to debut. We've just received these concept renderings of the Concept Genesis that preview what we believe will become the production large, rear-wheel drive sedan from Hyundai everyone is expecting.

Re: Hyundai Concept

nothing new. seen it before-- a camry front end and an Aston rear end.

am i the only one thats getting sick and tired of hyndai copying other car companies design. I mean, sure car companies copies designs from each other, but hyundai makes no attempt hide it. It's not that hard to design a car.

Re: Hyundai Concept

Yes, it has a lot of styling cues from other manufacturers. Toyota Camry for the nose of the car, and Jaguar for the rear of the car. BUT this car looks great in this concept drawing. I really am very positive about Hyundai and Kia (but Hyundai more). They can deliver the goods at a very LOW LOW price. That is always a key plus.

Re: Hyundai Concept

This is why I find it irritating when I see GM fanboys bashing import manufacturers for no apparent reason. Get your facts straight before bashing. The final design was chosen for this vehicle in 2004. That's when we first started seeing test mule prototypes roaming around. By 2005, all the suppliers, assembly plants would have finished completing all the necessary parts, equipments, etc. Hyundai used their creative thinking skills into this one and every other vehicle they've developed. The Camry came out in 2006. All humans in the face of the earth do not know what goes on behind another automaker's walls before they debut it. Anyways, the Camry-esque front-end is a design coincedence that we happen to see more now, with the most recent example being the new Mazda2 against the Yaris and Corsa. The rear is fantastic. Aston Martin? What are you talking about. It's the rear of the new Hyundai Elantra.

Bearing in mind that this is a sketch and not a car, I must say it is a handome sketch.

No new design ground has been broken. If I had to compare it to anything, I would say it reminds me of something between a Lexus GS and an Acura RL.

I look forward to seeing real-life pictures.

hahaha...So you think that because this sketch was created before the new Camry was in dealer lots, Hyundai didnt scam design cues from it?!? Did it ever occur to you that the people at Hyundai could have easly seen sketches of the Camry before it went into production? You are really trying to say it's a coincedence? Pleeeaaase!..even the guys at Hyundai would admit that they got inspiration from the Camry. Look at Hyundai, are they really a company that will be known as breaking boundries and creating their own look?? NO..ofcourse not! Hyundai has NO ESTABLISHED DESIGN! All of their models look like they rip off of other manufacturers, infact, thats their claim to fame. Aside from Chery, Hyundai is the biggest embarassment of design scams ever! Thats why they will always lack respect for styling and design..they cant even create their own look..it's pathetic.

HoeyHimself, you have to know this before you bad-mouth any automaker. Hyundai knows just about as much as we do of Toyota's future designs and processes. They don't have secret agents roaming around Toyota's California Design Division with their sketch pads ready. Whatever goes on behind their walls doesn't get out to any automaker or people like us.

Re: Hyundai Concept

Frankly, the only similarity I see between a Hyundai and another maunfacturer's car is the Hyundai Azera's taillights and the 2003 Honda Accord. And, I wouldn't go calling Hyundai's designs rip-offs. The Sonata controversy is also plain bogus. How does it look like the Accord? Every forum that blabbed about it couldn't answer that question. Taillights? Just because the brake lights is at the top and the reverse and turn signal lights are below it? If that is considered a "rip-off", I'd love to know your comment on the "blatant" similarity between the current Impala and the Honda Accord.

If anyone is stupid enough to find that many similarities between the Impala/Accord......they are plain BLIND!

Oh and did you forget that a while ago, Hyundai had gotten away with stealing technical secrets and the like from Toyota??

Re: Hyundai Concept

It's a good looking car - at least in sketch form. I can't wait to see the real thing. Still not sure if it's worth a trip to NY from PA to see it in person, though.

IMO the 2005+ Sonata looks VERY MUCH like a 2003-2005 Honda Accord. Again, production timelines make it unlikely that Hyundai was able to "copy" the Accord, but the similarities are striking to me.

And don't even get me started on how the Kia Optima is a ripoff of the Jaguar S-Type (at least in the front end).

Exactly...we've had an idea of what the new Camaro is going to look like for a few years now. It would be like Hyundai introducing sketches of a car that looked like a Camaro next year...sure the sketches would be released before the Camaro hit production, but come on, there could have been a Camry photos kickin around a few years ago. But it is undeniable, this car found it's "look" out of the pages of a Camry book.

EldoFan, I wouldn't be talking that much right now as I think you didn't notice the sarcasm there. I'm implying that there are as much similarities from a Hyundai to Honda as to the Impala and Accord.
