Arrow Hyundai announces Veracruz pricing from $26,305

Quote:
The entry price for the Hyundai Veracruz has been set at $26,305* for a GLS, which is no vinyl-seated, three-on-the-tree stripper. For just over 25 grand, you get Hyundai's grunty 3.8 liter V6, standard ESC and ABS, a nifty stereo system, and alloy rims to name but some of the standard bag of tricks. Going full boat for the Limited will raise the bottom line to just over $34k, but considering that the GLS has almost everything you'd want right from the get-go, we can only imagine the smorgasbord of stuff in the mid-range SE model and range-topping Limited.

Re: Hyundai announces Veracruz pricing from $26,305

From the Hyundai website, it will have a six speed auto and 260 horsepower. Add all the safety features and standard features, and it's a good deal.

However, any GM salesman trying to market the Outlook or Acadia has an ace in the hole. The Veracruz has 80-odd cubic feet of storage space behind the first row. The Outlook and Acadia have 116 cubic feet of storage space behind the first row. That's less interior space than the bigger minivans, but dramatically more space than the Veracruz and even a bit more than the Tahoe.

The only thing that sets the Veracruz apart from its competitors is the lack of a navigation option or Bluetooth. At least it comes standard with SmartKey.

Standard features:
260 horsepower, 257 pound feet of torque 3.8 liter DOHC V6
6 speed automatic
3 rows of seats
front and rear A/C
stability control
traction control
electronic brake force distribution
side curtain airbags
active front head restraints
steering wheel audio controls
tilt and telescoping steering wheel
MP3-compatible stereo system
dual exhaust
heated side view mirrors
tinted windows
10 year/100,000 mile warranty

I don't think the Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, or Toyota Highlander beat it on interior volume, standard features, engine, transmission, warranty, or price.

The Outlook only has it beat on interior volume.

I think it's ugly - but it's definitely competitive.

Three on the tree?? The author must think his readers haven't purchased a new car since 1962.

Sounds like a good package. Dynamically, though, Hyundai's traditionally trailed U.S., European, and Japanese competitors. I wonder if that's no longer true.

They modelled the Veracruz's interior after the Lexus RX350 but they're going to sell the SUV at non-luxury prices with an abundance of standard features. That's a great move but I don't know how they'll make any money on it. Their loss, consumers gain.

Re: Hyundai announces Veracruz pricing from $26,305

I think it's a pretty nice vehicle (havn't driven one, of course) and the pricing is very competitive. I'd be curious to see what a loaded one like in the photos would cost (great leather color, BTW!) I'm guessing $32-33k...which if so would really put it at an advantage to the loaded Outlooks and Acadias.

The background on the gauges reminds me a lot of the ones on my brother's 2005 Acura TL.

All I can say is WOW!!!!

THIS is what GM interiors need to look like.

As for the poster who questioned how Hyundai makes money, they have much lower wages for their factory grunts, and use alot of robots for the rest.

The brown leather is available here, which is a godsend. The navigation system for the US is still under development. The picture is of the Korean-spec Veracruz, but everything you see there is available here except for the screen.

Actually, the Hyundai workers in Korea have their own union and make excellent pay. I'm not sure how Hyundai affords to be so cheap, but they aren't one of the companies paying people $0.25 an hour in some trash heap factory.

They may make excellent pay for their type of work in S. Korea. However, they are still paid quite a bit less than what U.S. workers are in similar jobs. The plant they built in Alabama for the Sonata, no hands touch that car at all during assembly. It's done entirely by robots.

Still, I find it hard to understand why U.S. carmakers refuse to put the level of attention into the interior materials in thier cars, as what was shown above. If Ford, GM, and DC would all three pony up the extra grand or two per unit, and make eye popping interiors like that for all of their products, they could easily reclaim most, if not all, of their previous market share. The costs of those interiors could easily be offset by no longer having to offer massive rebates to move the iron.
