Talking How quick is the new GT-R? Try 3.3 seconds!

Edmunds Worlds First Full Test - 2009 Nissan GT-R

"We know you want the numbers and we're not going to waste your time. Neither is Nissan. Its 2009 GT-R hits 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, quicker than the last Dodge Viper, Corvette Z06 and Porsche 911 Turbo we tested. Keep your foot pinned, and after another tap on the upshift paddle it will clear the quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds at more than 120 mph."

"Our test was conducted on a fairly low-grip surface that produced lots of rear wheelspin before the GT-R's sophisticated all-wheel-drive system engaged the front wheels and it thundered down the track."

"In an effort to preserve its drivetrain and relations with the owner, we only activated the launch control twice, but with a few more attempts to calm the violent wheelspin, the numbers would likely have been even better."

"The best engine for the money, period."

Cars like this are the reason Nissan/Infiniti is the only Asian company I would ever have any interest in. Looks amazing in red!

Two pictures for me. Most importantly look at the trap speed...............on a rolling start the GTR will get annihilated.

Keep in mind the GTR's time was done on a less than ideal track surface. Not hating though, that's a great pass!

They're saying it has the best engine for the money, when the engine has little to do with how well it can launch. It is has always been the drivetrain that made the Skyline a great car, the engine really wasn't as good as people seem to believe. This still holds true on the GT-R.

Huh? The previous Skylines had a very tuner friendly engine and a good chassis which is why the cars were so popular. This is yet to be seen with the new Skyline, but Nissan has a history of building good engines. For ex.: VG30DETT - 300ZX, RB26DETT - Previous Skyline GT-R, & the SR20DET - Silvia.

Re: How quick is the new GT-R? Try 3.3 seconds!

a Automatic CTS V AWD with 600 HP ZR-1 Engine will suck off the doors off this beast and spank it all the way to 200 MPH.. GM... do not be caught off guard.

Also the Z06 needs AWD to spank this thing. Please GM, give the people what they want.

The Engine is not the amazing part, its the AWD and electronic launch Nanny. 473 horses is nothing to write home about.
When on the freeway, a Z06 will easily leave this thing in the dust

The new CTS-V is coming with 600HP? I thought it was more like 530HP or so.

Anyway, the 530HP GT-R Spec-V is coming with 400 LBS. less weight.

Re: How quick is the new GT-R? Try 3.3 seconds!

The current rumor is that the GT-R is under rated, and is more along the lines of 475hp. There are a few dyno graphs floating around, and it makes sense considering the weight of the car.

There is no doubt the Z06 is going to be faster on a roll, but I think what is so exciting about this car is that it will be faster around the track. Not because it is faster then the vette, but because it is much easier to drive closer to the limit, then the Z06 is.

Edit: 550 at the Crank, sorry!

Its more the trap speed which shows the true power-to-weight ratio. Z06 Easily trounces the GTR by almost 7MPH. Traction has very little to do with trap speed usually. and given the AWD system of the GTR, its even more telling.

No definitely not 550hp fly!!!!!! If it was above 480 then you would have seen a higher trap speed. Track surface would have little to do with this run since apparently the car hooked up pretty well. So if what they say is true about its AWD system then the GTR shouldn't make any huge jump in times with a stickier track.

Where I see this car loosing badly is a multi lap road course event, on a roll on, unexpected street challenges, and also when the competition vettes, vipers, ferrari (and other RWD cars) have a change of tires.

Potential problems would be drive line damage after several hard launches, and excessive brake and tire wear.
