Honda to sell Natural Gas fueled vehicle

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...da_natural_gas

Honda says it will sell its natural gas powered Civic at retail and lease the re-fueling machines required to fill them at the owners' homes. It has 7,000 of the natural gas powered vehicles in fleet service, but this is the first time that they will be sold retail to the general public.

Re: Honda to sell Natural Gas fueled vehicle

This is potentially huge in terms of long term solutions to future shortages and price fluctuations in oil. Consider:
Quote:
Honda said the Civic GX can go up to 220 miles without refueling and costs about 3.75 cents per mile to fuel. A conventional, gasoline-powered Civic can go approximately 350 miles without refueling and costs 8.8 cents per mile to fuel.
Looks to me like it's less than half as expensive to operate. Further, seems to me engines components would last longer, since the crankcase oil would stay cleaner with less contaminants, etc.

The article goes on to cite the green benefits of burning natural gas. Very environmentally friendly.

The natural gas infrastructure is largely in place already, with NG pipelines crisscrossing the country, and piped right into millions of homes and businesses.

Kudos to Honda!

Wonder how they will collect road use taxes as they do with pump gas? Won't take long for the gov'mt to get thier cut.
