Honda Interior Quality?

So last week I spent a lot of time in a 2005 Honda Odyessy. It has about 40,000 miles on it, and has been taken care of greatly. So I'm riding in the second row captin seat and the radio is really low. I located about 4 different rattles in that thing's interior. The driver's seat rattles, something on the left side of the second row rattles, and there are 2 different rattles on the right side sliding door. Later I did some inspecting to make sure it wasn't something they had put in the car that was making some of the noise, but nope, it wasn't. They didn't really have anything in the car other than a towel.

Needless to say, I was shocked. Honda is suppose to have such good interiors. And to be fair, the materials in it are of nice quality, however contruction must have taken a quality hit sometime.

Further proof that perception is playing with people's minds.

Re: Honda Interior Quality?

My mom has an '05 Honda Odyssey with about 30,000 miles on it and we have no rattling issues but some panels could be constucted and put together more nicely. Either way she loves it.

Re: Honda Interior Quality?

I love my GM Chevrolet Cobalt but at 10 months and 9,000 miles it rattles more then my Grandma's Dentures.

However, it is worth putting up with being as that I am saving 10 mpg over my old Camaro.

Re: Honda Interior Quality?

I have a Honda Accord. My only complaint is the cloth seats. They are crap. Something got on the seat and it does not come off. Plus they just don't wear well and my seats look like crap. I treat my car well too. Now I have to buy seat covers. Ugh...

Re: Honda Interior Quality?

I always thought they looked they were pieced together like monkeys. All that putting panels in seemingly random design for the sake of style never made any sense to me and the Odyssey is by far the worst offender. When my sister totalled her 98 Accord, it was the odd interior design that pushed her into the Jetta.

IMHO Honda needs to get back to the simple logical layouts they used to have and stop with the crazy layouts that people have to seriously think about to figure out.

And such good, scientifically arrived at proof, no less...

Of course, my Buick has about 64,000 miles on it, and it doesn't really rattle, either. So, Buick can make some great machinery, too. Alas, this one was built in the last few months of the Eisenhower Administration.

NSAP,
your interior quality issues seem to mirror what I have read in several reviews.

I just got done PMing a buddy here (Yes...I do have a few buddies) We were both chatting about some squeaks we have in our vehicles. My theory is (and this can go with any car manufacturer) If a vehicle is built on a Tuesday for example it will be better built then let's say a Friday. I would love to know the Day, Shift, Hour, and most important the People that built one of my vehicles to rate Build Quality that way. I am willing to bet there are certain "Teams" or "Shifts" of people that build better vehicles then others by a long shot and it reflects in to the overall build quality of any vehicle.

How else do you get a lemon?

Re: Honda Interior Quality?

I know about 5 families that have the prev gen Odyssey's and all of them exhibit rattles and major road noise - when we were on the market for a minivan my wife def took the Honda off the list due to the apparent shoddyness of the inside - not that the Pontiac Montana was any better but I was surprised coming from Honda - Havent been in the latest gen to know if its better, however we are past our Minivan prime and ended up with a Tahoe

Re: Honda Interior Quality?

Oh, I forgot. The previous gen Honda minivans had a lot of transmission failures.

That's something I forgot to mention.

The back of that Odyssey has so much road noise! The front is fine, but the second and third rows are bad.

Re: Honda Interior Quality?

the only hondas that are built decently are the accords, the pilots and maybe the civics. The rest are average at best when it comes to build quality. Accords are built solid with nice materials, i'd say they're currently best in class when it comes to build quality, from what i've seen.

all the odysseys i've seen have had major panel allignment issues. Also the plastics themselves are pretty bad, most are hard and come across as thin.

Siennas are very well built though, with exellent materials. They and a few of the older toyota models are what's left of japanese build quality.

Eh, my buddies Accord interior looks like crap, but he doesn't take care of his cars so how much is him and how much is Honda, I don't know.
