Interesting, strange even, to hear a Honda, especially a compact Honda, being described as not "up to" competition from GM and Ford. How different things are across the pond...

Man, how I wish they'd bring that car over. Guess I'll have to settle for a used Focus SVT...

Interesting interior. It's all very "Honda" but they went crazy with some elements. I love the gauges!

I'm actually liking it a lot...the red background to the "H" is awesome...time to compare to the Si interior...

We say only 198 hp because the latest models from Ford and GM boast 222 hp and 237 hp, respectively. Forced induction is now the order of the day as European "hot hatchback" buyers find themselves drag-racing Porsches. But Honda's marketing mouths say the normally aspirated Civic Type R ducks the power struggle in pursuit of a purer driving experience. . .

. . .But for all Honda's talk of increased civility and all-round appeal, the Type R lacks the performance or the depth of quality of its European rivals. The game has moved on since the Integra wowed us in the 1990s and Honda needs to play catch-up. The Civic needs torque, not talk.
Ford (Focus ST) and GM (Astra VXR) are among those European rivals. Most European media I've read thinks the Astra a bit too primal, but at last count, the Focus made excellent showings against the Volkswagen GTI, the perceived class leader. I can't think of anyone else who has a large role in this segment that isn't redundant or new . .not as many European car companies are in the hot hatch hunt as you might think.

Do you remember when Honda's motto was "We make it simple". That is the era when I fell in love with Hondas. The interior above looks like something from a 10 year old Pontiac: gray buttons and dials shotgun scattered everywhere.

MF
Because riced civic owners world wide have been painting the background red for years and slapping on the Type R badges at any open/non vinyled over place on the car. But none the less, this Civic actually have something to back it up and is probably the one of the coolest cars I've seen them produce since..well..I have never really liked any of their cars before.

That NAV screen is perfect where it is. Under the lip of the dash too. Keeps out the sunlight.

So long as you can control it from steering wheel or somewhere further down the center stack, yeah it looks great there...just hope you dont find yourself required to lean forward and have to hit buttons on it manually.

If you can reach the shifter then you can also reach the button for the nav control.
