Re: Enough is enough! Beijing Copy Cats!

Way to flood the thread with irrelevant, offtopic pictures. At least link to it.

Clearly the face of the ML, which came after the Harrier/RX, looks far more like the Toyota than the Benz concept you cite.

But this is stupid. This is the way of car design and has nothing to do with your Eurocentric whistleblowing. I'm carrying on someone else's argument anyway, I just thought you were silly for saying the LS was a copycat of the S-Class. It's just the flow of design trends.

And I agree that throughout history you'll see more influential design out of the west, given that Japanese car companies were merely following in American and European footsteps to feed their domestic market up until the 80's and 90's when they cought up and began to quietly outshine the complacent American companies in their own market. By now the Japanese companies have caught up, some sooner than others (I'd say Nissan has had many strong designs even since the 70's), and the idea that they're all design deficient copycats is no longer appropriate. Furthermore, it's just not fair to generalize, from any of this, that "copying" is an "Asian way of life" or whatever.

Anyway!!! Back to the real copycats!!

More?

Geely Tiger GT concept, April '08:

Suzuki Kizashi concept, Sept. '07:

Beijing copy-cat or design trend?

Maybach Excelero one-off, May '05:

Maybe it evolved from...

Audi A8, Nov. 2003:

Anyway unless it's clearly a copy-cat, it may just be design trend.

However, what I think blurs the line between design trends and copy-cat:

Honda Li Nian concept, April '08:

Ford Verve concept, August '07:

Now, that is called a 'Copy', or 'Blatent knockoff' whichever you want to call it. What you posted above isn't as bad. Most if not all car makers sort of do that for the design cues, and I would say, Chinese are definately improving. Only thing they now have to perfect are the safety issues if they ever want to export their cars outside of China.
well yea. i dont really find words. and i have seen some even weirder copies. for inst, there was a lexus rx300, bmwx5, some sort of mitsu and i couldnt even read their names. there was one for expl that had such a long name, i thought its a phrase. from one side of the back way passing the middle part. i see one daily, its a great wall, well i thought first its an outlander.

Ugly. They can call when they have original designs. I wouldn't count on it though.
