Duck and cover - Geely strikes back!

Geely LG-1

Geely Automobile, one of the most rapidly developing Chinese car manufacturer introduced its more upmarket LG-1 recently.

The car, which is officially named Geely LG-1 King Kong has been developed with assistance from Korean and Italian companies. Geely claims there were over 1000 engineers from China and abroad summoned for the project.

More info and pics @ http://www.globalautoindex.com/news.plt?no=1438#

******

Now nothing is said on which Korean company was involved, but LG sounds meaningful. Was that the refrigerator division? The wheelbase is longer than in the previous Daihatsu Charade-based models, but this could be just an evolution of the design.

Now the King Kong joins Beauty Leopard, Meirie and Urban Nanny in Geely's fight for world domination. In the, very unlikely, case Geely fails to bring down Toyota and GM at the same time, they could license those names to the creator of Chinese X-Men

Re: Duck and cover - Geely strikes back!

I am afraid they did. The Beauty Leopard, Merrie and Urban Nanny have been around for some time, so no wonder here.

AutoWeek's forum has a thread with some more pics, including the beautiful interior (notice the innovative use of vacuum cleaner's dustbag around the shifter):

http://forums.autoweek.com/thread.js...30935&tstart=0

From some angles it looks like Proton got a licence from Fiat to manufacture the old Lancia Lybra but lost the blueprints and tried to come up with something...

Hey, that doesn't look half bad. Will this one have a built in Kareoke machine too?

Bleurgh!

Hang on, if that's an upmarket model, what on earth do the basic models look like?

Actually, stuff that, it looks like an obese Proton Savvy (below) with a builders bum.

Look at that beautiful interior, GM needs to put things out like this rather than the crap we're seeing in the Camaro Concept and in the new Saturn Concepts. It really beats the crap out of anything GM has, especially the Escalade or STS-V.
