3.3-liter DOHC all-aluminum V-6 - 230hp

LED taillights
Xenon headlights

US version will possibly offer the DOHC 3.8L V6 with 275hp (TG380) to be more competitive with Avalon and V8 Lucerne.

No one, and I mean no one, builds a better car to suit 75 year old men better than Buick!

It looks better than the Avalon, but not as elegant as the Lucerne. Still, it sounds superb in the mechanics and features area, and with a price cheaper than both the Avalon and Lucerne, senior citizens may have a new "ride".

You couldn't get my grand parents in a Korean/Japanese car if you bought it for them.

Re: Buick Lucerne's competition from Hyundai

On the exterior, it looks like the Passat derivative, with some S80 lines.
On the interior, it looks like an Avalon wannabe.

It doesn't have the Lucerne's elegance in the interior... or even the exterior for that matter.

It might give Avalon a run for it's money though. As for a Lucerne competitor?? No.

Re: Buick Lucerne's competition from Hyundai

I can see more than just seniors going for this car. Maybe those looking to get a TL type vehicle that want the top notch quality of materials, and luxury amentities for a lower price, and want a car with a great value. Hyundai's new entries coming are sure to boost their sales up a bit. I do like the elegant, yet a tad sporty exterior design, though not as elegant as Lucerne, certainly a just as nice design. The interior is where I would say this car would blow the Lucerne out of the water. The materials even look as if they would feel pleasent in the picture, though I would have to touch them myself to be sure. Very nice center stack design, and the wood trin looks quite nice, wheter real of faux. Also the headrests look as if they would be quite comforting and the intrument panel is nicely lit with colors that remind me of Honda's instrument panels in their vehicles. The armrest of the door panels look as if they are nicley padded and postioned for comfort, not to high, not to low. The leather backs also look nicely concaved in the center enough so as to make your body more comfortable in tight and wide turns, and the seat bottoms look nicely cushioned.

This car does have potential. I would only be dissapointed in Hyndai if they did not fix the gas mileage problem on their next generation cars. Hopefully their new vehicles will perform well in crash tests, as that would help them. I would like to see, sit in, and feel this car in person.

It seems to be true what some auto journalists are saying, the gap between Korean and Japanese vehicle in quality, reliabilty, safety, and other such aspects is narrowing. It shouldn't be too long before those who looked down on Korean cars interms of reliability, start to at least respect these cars for how far they have come in the years. With the next Elantra coming on this year, I believe, I am hoping it will fair better in crash tests than did the Kia Spectra.

I'd say the new XG is well done.

Exterior: ok front, ugly rear... interior looks like an upscale Camry in layout... and putting the new 3 to SHAME? I'm sorry, but I think they're getting a little ahead of them selves...

It does look pretty good.
Kudos to Hyundai.
Who would have thunk it back in 1984.

hmm, looks OK. I just find the interior's little wood trim funny for some reason. They need a bolder style but for a Hyundai, this is a big step for them.

Re: Buick Lucerne's competition from Hyundai

Allthough this is a nice car, I personally don't think it is as nice as the Lucerne.
I would not choose it over the Lucerne anyways. That's just me though.

Re: Buick Lucerne's competition from Hyundai

This is serious competition. The interior, though not quite up to Avalon standards, is very nice and upscale. And the exterior is so much better than it's predecessor. I'm extremely impressed. If Hyundai continues pumping out quality products such as this and the new Sonata, they are sure to be next to the likes of Honda, Toyota, and Nissan with sales. I really love what Hyundai has done. Good products bring good sales.

LED tailights and HID headlamps in a Hyundai? Sweet!!!

Re: Buick Lucerne's competition from Hyundai

Not Lucerne competition!?! I'll agree that it's not as elegantly-styled as the Buick, but it has the same amount of features yet at a lower price. With gas pushing over $2.00 around the nation, I doubt many people will be going for a V8-powered sedan...

I'm impressed with the performance of the engines - now lets see how they perform in fuel economy. Are they "high strung" engines working their butts off to achieve that performance, or smooth highway cruisers?
