Re: Acura RSX owners unhappy with quality

Honda's had crappy transmissions for awhile, especially auto trannys. There are many sites dedicated to lemons, I've seen it on import and domestic many times, it's just owner's way of lashing out.

I find it interesting though that I haven't found an automatic transmission yet that is as good as GM's, but GM essentially invented the automatic transmission and it makes sense that they would be the best at doing so.

Re: Acura RSX owners unhappy with quality

is it my imagination or do a lot of people claim honda and especially acura to be some of the highest quality cars. I have worked a few sommers for Aamco transmissions and i remember seeing just as many Hondas and Acuras as Chevrolets of the same years. The difference is that by now GM would have released a rebuild kit that would fix the problem. Honda may have already but alot of times dealers will not use a completely new kit when reconditioning transmissions under warranty.

They don't care about long term quality when rating a car because they get these cars and put them head-to-head in comparison tests for a week or two and then it's on to the next ones. They don't drive the same car for years like the rest of us do.

Some of the magazines do long term reports (1 year) of cars but never long term comparisons.

Funny story.

Girl at my school got a brand new RSX. In a month she has gone through 3 clutches.....

Not the cars fault though.

Does the RSX even come with an optional automatic?

Base does, not Type-S, too little torque to for a slushbox.

How do you know GM has the best transmissions? I've driven cars that shift smoother than the comparable GM equivilent. You have this belief that GM trannys are bullet proof. They are NOT. The tranny in my car is slipping occasionally. GM put a transmission into a car that can only handle the 175hp/210tq rating. Well unfortunately, it doesn't hold up too well. It doesn't shift smooth either.

Tough times are ahead. A brand new car is not in the cards. My new (to me) 16 year old Accord serves the purpose extremely well. And it's paid off!

Where in your Toyota? Every Toyota I've driven/riden in has the most abrupt and sloppiest shifts I've seen, Honda's are pretty smooth, at least in my cousins TSX. Yes, you've said MANY MANY times that your N-Bodies suck.

Re: Acura RSX owners unhappy with quality

well GM engines do tend to "CLUNK" into gear shifting from park. Unless this isnt an occurance in the 4 speed autos, but it WAS like that in the Corsica i used to have (i think it had a 3 speed).

Prolly not a durability issue but it does sound like the transmission's gonna fall apart.
