    2010 Mahindra Appalachian spy shots.

"Mahindra is gearing up for a 2010 model year launch here in the States, but we caught this test vehicle undergoing cold-weather testing in northern Scandinavia. Sitting on Mahindra’s Scorpion platform, we’ll be seeing 2-door and 4-door trucks in both two-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive versions arriving on our shores in late 2009. And a Mahindra SUV will follow about a year later – likely for the 2011 model year.

Our lightly camouflaged pictures show a facelift for the Indian and European markets. The U.S. version will have a unique grille – different from what’s attempting to hide under the black vinyl in these photos. Power for the U.S. versions will come from a urea-based 140-hp common rail diesel, and all the vehicles will have a 6-speed automatic transmission."

Would it seem a little odd if an American company imported a vehicle into India and called it, "Varanasi"? I also find it odd that Kia and Hyundai name vehicles after American cities.

That makes the Colorado look so much better and it makes the Ranger look new. Amazing...

If it's really affordable it could have moderate success as a true work truck. A small 4x4 truck with a diesel and 6-speed manual transmission? That's cool. Plus, it's the kind of truck that you're not too worried about tossing junk into or scratching up a bit. Like a Lada with a bed. They'll really have to be careful with their pricing.
It's been swell, but the swelling's gone down.

Not bad really. The single cab (or at least a non-crew cab ext cab) would look 10x better though. Can't wait to see the specs on the diesel when it arrives. It will be worth a look if the next Ranger starts packin the pounds for MY11.

These things are sold in Australia as the Mahindra Pik-Up. The dealer network is tiny and not many get sold here, plus they are only sold in the eastern states of Australia, which limits their market presense.

I've only ever seen one on the motorway!

American and Japanese vehicles are having a hard time selling right now. Why on Earth does Mahindra think that they can introduce something like this?
