2008 Subaru Impreza Illustration

New nose + hatchback. I was one of the few people who liked the old nose (below) on the Impreza.

You and I may be the only people to like the Alfa-inspired nose on the current Impreza. :[

The WRX STi is THE ONLY Asian performance car that I take seriously. I can not stand the thought of them making it a hatchback. If there was any Asian import car that I could be even persuaded into considering, it would be the WRX STi..but making it a hatchback will kill any masculinity that the car has, it will ultimatly end my admoration for the car.

Make that 3...I myself liked the newest nose found on the current Imprezza. Its kind of a shame. this future illustraion make the next STI or imprezza look more like a Japanese Saab and I am not sure I like it.

It seems to look more bland.

Although they offer the current wagon - I prefer that to this new hatch - now it blends in more with the Mazdaspeed 3

If anyhting Suburu just confirmed the Mazdaspeed3's existence in trying to reproduce it.

Like Hoey said - If Subi decides to only make an STi hatch and not offer a sedan then I have lost respect for them - because the sedans just plane look better and are better designed for performance. Hatchback is the only reason I wouldn't consider the Mazdaspeed 3...the sedan is much more a looker.

Re: 2008 Subaru Impreza Illustration

Another reason why I dont want the Impreza WRX STi to go hatchback....

Whos going to go up against this guy in the same competitive manner?..

The current WRX STi just seems to fit along side the current and future EVO better then anything with a hatchback.

Re: 2008 Subaru Impreza Illustration

The current Impreza looks weird because it has a fresh front-end design on an outdated looking body. Simply put, the body wasn't made for that front-end.

The bug eye Impreza is still my favorite.

Why all the hate for hatchbacks?

The STI will do fine against the EVO. There are other hatchback rally cars out there.

Be that as it may, it allows the EVO to have complete control over the sedan segment for out of the box rally race cars. For a moment, if I wernt so against buying import..I would seriously consider a WRX STi..but if it went hatcback, well, id be ONLY considering a EVO. I dont think that I would be the only person feeling that way.

The Citroen Xsara is a hatch and looks pretty good.

The Impreza has had more face lifts than Joan Rivers.

Re: 2008 Subaru Impreza Illustration

The new design has a distinctive euro flare to it, as is the trend with so many new compacts. As much as I like the idea of a hatch, I hope Subi gives us a sedan version as well to satisfy a more traditional taste - although there's not much traditional about the STI - and to compete with Mitsubishi's offering, of course.

Re: 2008 Subaru Impreza Illustration

I used to be super-excited about Subaru, but have lost interest over the years. A WRX is already more car than I need, so any STi / GT / Yippee model they come up with is just overkill to me. I wish GM would get serious about AWD and give Subaru a run for their money.

Impreza and Impreza WRX will have both, sedan and hatch variants. WRX STi will be hatch only.
