As GMI has grown, so have the backend duties that it takes just to keep the site running..much less improve it. I started this site as a hobby, and now I simply do not have the free time to keep it running, redesign it, and write exclusive content.

Autoforums owns a large network of auto sites, and they see GMInsidenews as being one of their flagship sites that they want to turn into a premier source for news. I see this as the best way to let GMI get the redesign, and future resources it needs.

I have always wondered what would happen if GMI had a large company behind it. If you look at the big sites that generate exclusive news..they have companies like AOL and Edmonds behind them. It makes sense..because it takes a bit of money to pay for quality content, send people to shows, and what not. One weakness GMI has had is that we have routinly been brushed off when it comes to media access because we are "hobbist owned". Also, when something gets posted here that GM finds questionable, they pretty much get their way because I personally do not have the resources to make an argument out of that.

Autoforums is an enthusiast owned company that owns over 70 auto forums. Matter of fact, Autoforums founder John Gonzalez once sponsored GMI when he was starting CobaltSS.com. Autoforums is aquiring GMI to become a flagship news site that competes with many of the first hand news sites out there. One thing they have stressed they will not so is anything to upset the userbase. They see GMI as an investment..and it does them no good to run the site into the ground and make people mad. All the admins and moderators are staying along with me. I am kind of excited because I will be able to post more since I will be freed from my backend duties. Also, Autoforums has a full time tech staff who will keep the site always running on the latest software (something we have been bad at), and fill any design, feature requests the staff has (hello superticker return, chat). Also, overloaded servers during show season will be a thing of the past. NSAP, Rex, and Me will continue as Admins, with NSAP taking an editor position also.

Some of the things being discussed or already decided upon are as follows-

- More ads for guests, the same or less ads for members, and a premium subscription with almost no advertising
- Site redesign unqiue from other autoforums sites with cutting edge news/blogging features
- Budget for spy shots
- A legal team...to handle any issues one would be needed for.
- Possible cash prizes for design contests
- News promotion on Autoforums network of sites
- Anything else needed to help GMI become a known and respected source for first hand news.

I like the new layout. I'll need to navigate abit to get a feel for it.

I've thought for awhile, car window stickers of the logo would be cool. I could look into from my end, and then have a method to sell them.

I like the new logo.

First, there was 'We are Marshall', now it's 'We are GMI'.

Re: Wow, new layout. I like it.

I like it too. Very modern. Only thing I don't like is the blue sci fi graphic at the top. IMO just white would look better.

Yea, I noticed that too. Initially I was like "WHERE IS IT?!!! Since that's the first thing I check.

But I scrolled and found it. Not a big deal from my persepctive. Now the cars are the highlight at the top.

I'm especially diggin' on the new logo.

I have let the people handling the redesign know that it needs to be back.
