Why No Regional Forums?

I got a late start on this as well - but I just added a Regional section on CadillacOwners.com.. Now the 'meets' are really starting to pick up. There's no reason we can't have a Regional area here - and have GM-related meets. It doesn't have to be all one make or model..

Let's get a Regional category here and start having some GM meets...

Re: Why No Regional Forums?

I think one of the main reasons we don't have regional forums is because we already have a ton of forums, and don't want to add more.

Didnt we just get that SnakePit one?..what purpose does it serve? I still cant find a differance in the conversations held there or anywhere else. It's a great idea in theory, but just makes no differance.

In any case, there are a few forums that could be trimmed off I am sure.

Re: Why No Regional Forums?

Regional Forums might be a good idea. I'd like to meet a few GMIer's in person, they'd find out I am not such a bad guy!

Re: Why No Regional Forums?

We're all car nuts.. The bottom line is, we all have that in common. I'm sure we'd all get along better - and understand each other better - after meeting in person. We get at each others throats online, but in person it's just different. It's easier to appreciate the things you have in common that way..

ANYWAY.. Look how many forums I have at CadillacOwners.com.. If you aren't interested in the category, you can just close it. That's a nice function that vBulletin offers us... I'd go through with it.. Think of how big the meets would be.. Sure, the Pontiac guys have meets.. The Buick guys have meets.. The Cadillac guys have meets... And so on... At a GM forum, they could ALL get together at the same time...

I'd like to meet up with the local crew once in a while as well, though it's more difficult nowadays having a small child at home and another on the way.

I'll let you know when I'm in Detroit for NAIAS 2008. I'm probably going to go for media days this year.

Re: Why No Regional Forums?

I think GMI should have regional forum pages.

For Australia I request one each for: New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory, plus one each for the South Island and North Island of New Zealand.

Thats 10 new Austalian and New Zealand regional forum pages please! Now for Europe: England, Scotla.....

Re: Why No Regional Forums?

Yeah but then you can easily divide England up further in regions:

Wiltshire, Hampshire, Devon, Dorset, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Kent, East Anglia, Cornwall, Gloucestershire, Bedfordshire, Herefordshire and so on, so on and so on.

I think it's a pretty cool idea if you live in the US. However I'd say at least 10% of GMi don't, therefore it's a bit rubbish. Hehe.

Poland has double the number of members that France has... can I join you guys?

I thought that maybe this was a good idea (regional forums) UNTIL I read DuSpinnst's posts... anything that brings us closer to that guy HAS to be a bad idea!

Re: Why No Regional Forums?

I agree, we already have way too many forums right now.

If there was to be any regional forums, you'd have to make one for evey country (we have a lot of people on here from around the world).

Re: Why No Regional Forums?

I've suggested this other places but never got an answer as to if it's possible

use a tree structure, world - continents - countries/regions/states - cities
but
where all the posts from child areas appear in the parent as well

so only the world contact forum would show in the main page,
in world you could see all posts (+ the continent sub-forum headings),
but could drill down to get as specific as you want.
maybe countries/regions/states could even be different levels for big/populous/chatty countries?
