Site Issues...

Ok, I am having a few issues with this site and some of them are really getting to me.

1. Searching disabled. There are like 80 members and 300 or so guests and it seems like searching gets disabled on a whim, it especially pisses me off when I make a search and then try to get to page 2 of that search and get the "disabled" message. My search should be cached, and I should have access to the entire results list. The current setup is stupid.

2. Spell checker. Since the update of vbulletin the spell checker in IE (in the Editing Window above the smilies) doesn't work. It generates a script error. Really annoying in that if I use the toolbar version (because the right click version is DISABLED by vbulletin) I sometimes get stuck in "ALT" mode causing backspace to BACK UP my browser causing me to lose what I typed.

3. Timing Out. When the site times out after you submit a post, many times your post vanishes, hitting refresh does not ask you to "repost" your data and thus your post is lost. This shouldn't happen, if IE knows the site didn't get the form data it asks you upon refresh to rePOST, otherwise the server has accepted the data. If the server accepts the data and then craps out and throws out the data, this is bad design and needs to be looked at.

Basically the board software since upgrade has gotten worse, to the point it makes the site almost unusable.

I've been visitng less becasue I've been busy and frankly the software is pissing me off.

Re: Site Issues...

I get those too, the timing out is annoying as hell.

BTW, it happens to me on firefox, ie, my PSP and Safari.

Re: Site Issues...

The only issue I have (I use firefox) is when I submit a post the page goes white. When I refresh the page my post has always been there but it's rather annoying.

Oh and the disabled search/server busy lol (see below) How could I forget...

Re: Site Issues...

The disabled search is what bothers me.

The spell checker can be used under tools-iespell in IE7.

I don't have any of those problems except for the first one. Try using another browser.

Re: Site Issues...

We have to have the search disabled when server load is high. Its either that or make it so that it boots people off... Last time Branden and I talked he said he is wanting to do something with the server very soon.

I can't comment on the IE Spell, as I don't use it.

I have never had a time out issue.

Yea, that's what I do, but that causes the IE bug where it gets stuck in alt mode to rear its ugly head (I spell check mid post sometimes).

If you hit backspace after using it sometimes it backs the browser up.

That is defiantly a problem with vbulletin, Nothing to do with the browser (its actually a feature not enabled on FireFox) but rather the board software.

Problem 3 can be replicated on any browser and on any platform.

Problem 2 is board related, but can only be replicated on IE because FireFox doesn't have this feature (yes it is an IE specific feature).

I won't use FireFox (regardless of how much people love it) because for most of the sites I visit it provides an inferior browsing experience.

Re: Site Issues...

what IE are you using? i use 7 and i havent had any problems like that. and ive never been timed out (i have my comp remember me, so maybe that might be why?). the search overload does get annoying, but thats when i go into my subsricbed threads and see if there have been any responses, or just hit the back button until i get to the new post page again. usually that works.

Re: Site Issues...

I haven't had those problems ('cept the busy) but noticed "phantom" page numbers.
Earlier today the MKS thread showed 13 pages when there were only 12. When I clicked on 13, 12 just reloaded. No biggie, just saying...

think this was Firefox 2.0.0.9
may have been IE6 too

Re: Site Issues...

I'm using Firefox, and when I post my browser will go blank. I have to go back, hit refresh and sometimes my post will show, other times it will not.

Re: Site Issues...

I've timed out (if that's what it's called???) several times and lost everything I've typed when going to submit it--usually during long drawn out replies.

It seems much more likely in long drawn out replies. Which makes it all the more annoying!

No issues here, except the infrequent search disabled.
