Question about the snake-killers.

The Snake Pit forum is advertised as having "low moderation." This means few Moderators actually cover the forum, and implies that the posts contained therein are allowed a grittier, less politically-correct quality.

But is this assesment true? Are we allowed to espouse views that are roughly as offending as Rush Limbaugh and post them? It makes sense to keep Rush Limbaugh-like content out of the ordinary forums since Limbaugh is, in general, politically in-correct.

The rules governing the Snake Pit forum should be those FCC rules established for syndicated public radio broadcasting, such as Rush Limbaugh's programming. This means that in-correct material and plainer truths should be allowed, but crap such as pornography, offensive words or any other conduct that would be inconsistent with levels established by Limbaughs company and the FCC would be barred (as well as the poster's IP address).

I think it would be great to this forum and demonstrate measureable progress if GMI were to take this view toward the Snake Pit. As it stands, the Snake Pit is over-moderated, and something Rush Limbaugh would routinely discuss on his program will receive swift actions of deletion by the Moderators here.

Agreed?

Re: Question about the snake-killers.

We will let Snake Pitt threads go for awhile, then they are done. My theory on this is that after a certain point such types of threads are not going to go anywhere and will cause little wars between members in other, non-Snake Pit forums. So yes, they will continue to be closed after a certain point (to be determined by the staff and no one else).

I think it is good to have an off the cuff closing of those thread. It ends the heated debate and sort of throws it out. Keeping them (which we did years ago), caused said issues to spill into other forums.

Be glad we are letting them go at all in such a forum. We didn't for 3 years and everyone survived.
