GMI problem with Firefox 3

Hey BigAl, NSAP and you all ..

I just upgraded to Firefox3 and the text windows do not seem to work right - I can type, but do not have control over cursor position:

- I can type
- I can use backspace
- I cannot click to change cursor position
- I cannot use arrows to change cursor position.

I am not sure whether this is some coding glich at GMI, or just my unique problem, but I thought I would share in case there is something that can be done.

If this is a common problem, but a problem with my Firefox - PLEASE - someone help me fix it.

OH YES - I just realized - as Itype the text window does not scroll with me anymore - and there is no spell check anymore. (I wanted to add this to the list above - but well cannot without deleting everything past it).

Finally this is not a problem at BON or any other place i have visited today with the new browser.

Finally (2) the thread title text field works fine.

Igor

Re: GMI problem with Firefox 3

See the A/A in the right hand corner of the message box (right of the spell check button). Click it so that it isn't highlighted/on anymore and than everything will work like normal. Not sure why that needs to be turned off every time though.

Re: GMI problem with Firefox 3

oh cool

I know why - GMI uses this advanced editor window that lets you paste formatted text, format the text in front of you and paste images.

Usual BB editor cannot do that you see the code - not the result. I guess FF3 cannot play nice with that advanced editor.

Thanks a bunch.

Really? It never worked when I installed Ubuntu 8.04. Thats how I figured out the Editor Mode thing. You even told me I should try a different internet browser.

Well I had to click on the button on the far right, it isn't enabled by default. But the button doesn't seem to show in Konqueror, Opera or Midori.
I don't recall though anything about what you mentioned. If you were using Firefox 3 before yesterday you were using a beta, so maybe things weren't working then

Lots of problems with Opera, my favorite browser, but I've gotten used to them. Still, IE7 is winning me back to IE, ever since they (finally) added tabbed browsing.

Still isn't working now and I downloaded the final version/release yesterday for both Vista and Ubuntu too. Its still the same. Where do I turn if off if its not default? I asked about it when I first downloaded Ubuntu 8.04 in the "Post your Desktop" thread. I'll find it.

Edit: Nevermind, you didn't respond. I could have sworn you told me to try a different browser too.

What exactly are we talking about here? Do you get the standard editor or the advanced editor (WYSIWYG)? And if you get the later is it working or not?

the WYSIWYG works just fine for me in Firefox 3, I see the formatting as I apply it, and not the formatting code. To enable it by default you have to check your options (User CP > Edit Options) and choose Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing.

Not even close to redemption, try Firefox 3 Faster than Firefox 2, and I could swear that it is faster than my favorite browser Safari, it feels that way sometimes.

Yeah, I have no clue what all that means. All I know is the button A/A is highlighted every time I go to type a message and the only way for the blinking cursor to show up in the messaging window so that I can fix my errors in typing without holding down backspace and completely retyping it is to un-highlight that button. I am guessing it puts me into advance editor mode since I can see all of the code for things such as Bold, Italics, etc.

If I leave it highlighted I can type but I cannot control the position of the blinking cursor (mainly because I can not see it), I cannot bold anything, and I cannot delete anything I highlight. I am guessing this is standard mode since I see none of the codes.

Well, you do have a better memory than mine, until you posted the link I had no memory of it whatsoever.
My memory isn't serving me well

FF3 is MUCH slower than IE8 and on par with IE7 and IE7 Pro.

Ahh, gotcha now. I change the setting to Standard Editor - Extra Formatting Controls and it works fine now.
