Censorship of things that are in the media

(Disclaimer: maybe my complaint is baseless... it COULD be because the thread has been moved, and I can't find it. But I suspect the thread has been destroyed, and that's what my complaint is about.)

- - - - - - - -

I'm an automotive fan. I like GM (and the rest of the Detroit 3) but I'm interested first and foremost in industry news.

Since GMI is an interesting forum and community that covers pretty much every manufacturer well, I've been frequenting only GMI for years. It's now all but my only source of automotive news.

But now that I think I've witnessed relevant international automotive industry news being swept under the rug, I'm starting to think I should maybe stop relying on this site for news. Sad.

http://www.spiegel.de/international/...511193,00.html

From now on I'll have to consider GMI a mere auto discussion forum, not a reliable source of auto industry news.

Maybe I was simply expecting too much, I don't know.

That discussion was getting very political, which is against the rules. In essence the topic did not break the rules, or get "swept under the rug" but rather the discussion that followed did.

It does seem that some of the people here are afraid of political discussions, or of any discussion which is not "politically correct." Of course, such behavior ignores the reality that politics and "politically incorrect" things are often important parts of a great many topics.

It is worth noting that "political" posts and comments are abundant and sustained here, as long as they are conservative in content and tone, and that threads generally get locked only after opposing views and thoughts of a "liberal" nature are posted in response. Hmmmm.

the thing that will destroy us all as humans will be the whole labeling. "liberal" "conservative" "terrorist"

all very stupid. Ideas are ideas, no two are exactly the same, and all come from different circumstances. If one idea is too out there, you can label it as "liberal" and close the thread on that basis, or you could not label it and hear the guy out.

Re: Censorship of things that are in the media

I deleted that thread around three and a half hours after it was first posted because it was already getting very heated by the forth post, plus these types of discussions always end in tears. Now this thread is already heading the same way.

GMInsideNews has had a 'No controversial topics' rule for years. This was born out of members unwillingness to follow other board rules on posting behaviour.
This is one of those very controversial topics that has always created a lot of heated discussion. Sad, but true.

If you wish to read the BMW article, do so, but this thread is now closed for further discussion.
