Question can't connect since changeover to new layout...

Ok guys I am beat. Last week the world is great, I can get my GMI fix any time on any machine. Then the layout changed....

When I am connected through work either in the office or via VPN I can see the site just fine. On that same laptop at home connecting via comcast it sits for a bit and then times out. That machine is WinXP SP2, IE6 fully patched.

On my own PC which is Vista SP1 I wait a while and then it times out, this also happened prior to the SP upgrade. Obviously this is using IE7.
- I have cleared my cache and cookies
- tried connecting using name & ip address
- i can ping "gminsidenews.com"
- done: ipconfig /flushdns , nbtstat - R and -RR
- powered off the cable modem/router
- rebooted (was part of the SP process anyway)
- no firewalls are on
- no errant host file entries
- searched the registry for gminside and found now entries other than the browser history
- Even installed Apple's Safari tonight and it can't connect

On this machine i Have a WinXP SP2 virtual machine with IE7.0, haven't used it in a few weeks and may not have even connected to the board using it. It can't connect. Also have Firefox on that VPC and it doesn't connect.

I have a Ubuntu 7.04 VPC as well, fireforx browser and it DOES connect without a problem as I am using it now to write this message.

The only way I have connected through comcast with a Windows machine is via one of those anonymous connection services, gosh darn slow though.

This is the only website that is causing me issues.
Here is the tracert for gminsidenews.com from home (steps 13 to 16 are the same regardless of whether I am going through comcast or work).

Tracing route to gminsidenews.com [66.18.160.147]over a maximum of 30 hops:

---------------------------------------

So in summarry:
Windows Vista SP1, IE 7.0 & Safari: cannot connect
Windows XP SP2 IE6.0: cannot connect via comcast, can connect via work
(VPC) Windows XP SP2 7.0, Firefox: cannot connect
(VPC) Ubuntu 7.04 Firefox: connects

Any ideas?

I'm not a technical guy but I like knowing these issues get resolved so I'm going to make sure this stays close to the top to get the attention of our staff who can in fact help out. Thanks for letting us know!!!

Works here with SP1. You have me scared though about the Comcast part. I don't have it here at home but I will when I get back to school.

Re: can't connect since changeover to new layout...

I have had a number of people tell me this. Many have been Comcast customers.

Have you tried doing a control + F5? I don't know if Comcast is using a Bluecoat device on their network to cache or not...

Yup done the force refresh, I am thinking it is a Comcast issue, but having a Ubuntu machine connect over the same connection throws me, why does it work when the other do not? Firefox on a windows box doesn't get it but Firefox on Ubuntu does.

Also, not a surprise, dealing with Comcast support is problematic, anyone know of away to get through to their networking people as opposed to the first line script readers?

It is a device that caches web pages/DNS numbers in order to speed up the Internet. It also can block ports, certain traffic, and many other capabilities.

Same here, can't log in with RoadRunner. Maybe the router's connecting to the old server? I can log in from everywhere but my house. School, work, library, friend's house, everywhere but home.
I'm suffering from GMi withdrawal!

Buick61 suggested trying accessing through ghostingweb.com...I'm planning on trying that when I get home.

Re: can't connect since changeover to new layout...

I started having the same problem with Comcast about 4 months ago. I can't connect via any of the four computers I have connected to Comcast. I can connect with the same computers using my Verizon wireless broadband service. All Comcast told me was that they don't block any sites and (in an apparent attempt to get rid of me) told me I needed to update the firmware in my router -- even though it's the latest version. Did any of you who where having problems with Comcast ever figure out what's going on or have any suggestions?
