World's Cleanest Vauxhall Astra VXR

http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=347865&page=1

I'll summarize for you; essentially a guy gets a brand new Vauxhall Astra VXR and customizes the seats and wheels (all fairly minor) but makes the paint (and even headlights!) as shiny as humanly possible without repainting or chroming the entire car. We're not just talking washing the car, waxxing, detailing, or any of those things FIVE TIMES OVER (which he does) but in fact using the highest technology available to buff the paint to the most mirror finish possible.

Part of me admires the guy and his team for carrying through on a plan. He can certainly say his is the shiniest one out there, anywhere. And it is really cool to see just exactly how far we can go, given modern technology. I'm glad that there are people like this out there.

Part of me also pitties him for the obsessive-compulsive nature of his need for cleanliness. If this car were going into a museum, in a dust-free environment, the finish would be perfect. On the road though, hairline scratches are just going to happen no matter what, and sooner or later, something worse is bound to happen. Cars are only temporary, no matter our efforts to preserve them against rust and all manner of predators. And simple things like the clay bar and waxing the wheels seems nuts. Just driving down the block will cover that multi-stage process with brake dust, and by a few 1,000 km it will be so thick you won't even be able to see the inner wheel. None-the-less, it appears that this is a display vehicle for http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/ , so of course it has to look it's best. In the end, I have respect for his being able to make the car do exactly that: look its very best.

Sorry, I didn't see another thread with this in it. I'm still not even sure where I should have looked. Vauxhall News? Saturn News? I tried a search, but "VXR" turns up bupkis.

Wow that is amazing. I think I like the car a lot more now. I am not sure why, looks so damn good for that price!

I was thinking the same thing. It's worth a second look.

If I get the McDonald's bags and kids toys out of the back seat, I'm ahead of the game.

Re: World's Cleanest Vauxhall Astra VXR

Wow.... it's almost too shiny. It seems like it would be hard to focus on the car itself, and all you could look at is the reflections.

For some reason this really makes me want an Astra. Even though I know mine wouldn't be like that :|

Re: World's Cleanest Vauxhall Astra VXR

Why don't car manufacturers higher this guy for its show car circuit models?
