Vaux VX220:What would it take?

Anyone know what it would take to get the VX220 to be shipped here? Not in mass production or sold here, but if it could be imported here? What is needed?

I'd like to know that too... think how awesome that'd be to drive that around the States!

Re: Vaux VX220:What would it take?

It is basicly a Lotus Elise, only it uses an Ecotec 2.2. They also make a turbo model. Sad part is, that the VX220 is being phased out for teh Opel GT aka Saturn Sky.
I know a certain friend of mine that loves Fieros, and would love to buy a new one.

If your friend want to buy a new LHD i must say sorry, because Opel stopped the production in the middle of the last year. But he can buy a used one. Here is a link from a Opel Club in America where your friend can maybe get a little help.

As far as I see it you'd need 1)a Car, 2)a helpful dealership and 3)an import agency.

1) Although the VX220 is no longer being built, there are enough stocks (certainly RHD versions) to last the most through 2006, all 2 ltr turbo versions. They were all built by lotus for vauxhall, and as posted elsewhere here, they are basically a Lotus Elise with a Vauxhall engine/body, the excellent chassis remains the same.

2) LOL, I am a (very) helpful Vauxhall dealer.

3) err, yeah, well I have a yellow pages directory. on a sensible note I can speak with Vauxhall UK who will know about shipping etc.

Let me know and i'll have one boxed up for you lol

Re: Vaux VX220:What would it take?

That would be very neat to import one. The VX220 is a very cool car. Hmm...I didn't know that they were phasing it out though in Europe. Or that they are selling the Sky in Europe as an Opel. Interesting...

Re: Vaux VX220:What would it take?

Oh and another thing:
I was thinking about importing a Lancia Thesis into the US. I researched everything, called importers, ect. It takes about 8 months and some serious cash to do the conversion for the US market. If you want it to be in the US full time, it can take about $22 grand (or more) to do it. If you have that kind of money, go for it. Otherwise, it's very expensive...I wanted to do the same thing. BUT, it would cost waay to much. It would probably be a total of around $70 grand. I don't have that kind of money..maybe when I'm rich, lol...but not know. Just a few tips I thought you would like to know.

Re: Vaux VX220:What would it take?

Thats a lot of cash for that car. Maybe I can find a wrecked Lotus, and just have Opel ship me the body pannels for the car. It would be cheaper to live in Europe for a few yaers.

Re: Vaux VX220:What would it take?

Well, this seems strange, because quite many people import American cars here, and it makes a maximum of three months, all customs duties et al. are quite simple, there isn't that much tax to pay, I think you only need to change the front and rear lights to comply with European standards (which can be tricky, but there are many specialists who know how to deal with that).

I know it does seem strange. But, I have personally inquired about doing it to a Lancia Thesis..and a few other cars too. It takes alot more then you think.....Emissions..headlights, taillights, the inside trunk latch thing...to bring it here. It's much harder to bring a European car here then visa versa. Just my 2 cents.

No kidding. That might be a good idea, if you really like the look of the Vaux. Seriously though, If you want, PM me and I can provide you with one of the responses from a Registered Importer (I can't find the others). Sound good? Your idea about buying a wrecked Lotus is a interesting one..that would be really neat if you did that.
