Re: Buying a 91 olds cutlass supreme sl, need help!

rear calipers seize up...you can find aftermarket loaded calipers....

heater pipe & hose assy that runs along side of subframe rots out....

I hope this is a 3.1 V6 & not a 3.4 DOHC...

2 doors break door handles and they are expensive to repair...

Otherwise, they were OK and nice looking cars, IMO...

Re: Buying a 91 olds cutlass supreme sl, need help!

Alright what I know from experience, Watch the alternator they go out every 60,000 or so on the early 3.1s, check the strut mounts if they are used on really bad roads they tend to break, electrical gremlins make sure to check everything electric and make sure it works and don't blow a fuse. My friend owned a 93 and my grandpa owned a 92 cutlass and those are the only things I can think of.

Re: Buying a 91 olds cutlass supreme sl, need help!

I don't have anything new to add, but I confirm some of the common problems since I had a friend who had a '92 3.1L until about 135,000 miles.

Check for the brake problem that GMCSonoma mentioned.

Alternator fails often.

Check strut mounts, like MB said.

Overall, the car had quite a few problems (mechanical and interior parts), was very underpowered, was loud, and had a poorly controlled ride. The seats were very comfortable and the body looked good even after 13 years in Michigan.

Re: Buying a 91 olds cutlass supreme sl, need help!

My sister had a 3800 powered 1992 Regal coupe...
Despite what I posted...she put 293k miles on it between 1992 & 2004...
Original engine & transmission....and ONE set of calipers!!!

I don't think I could handle the 55 hp. I'd definitely get a few tickets.

I have a 1941 GMC Truck. Don't expect me to buy another GM vehicle anytime soon.
